All of the old arguments against equal service in the military are bunk in 2025. Nobody's fighting with bayonets now. It doesn't matter how fit or strong you are -you still turn to meat just the same when the artillery shell or drone hits you. I've heard some try to tell me that women are needed to reproduce, while a few men can impregnate multiple women. But that is laughable nonsense that ignores the realities of how modern families work.

Of course I'd rather see NO ONE forced to serve; it's slavery, and the most hideous form of it that I can imagine. But I go back and forth on how to get there.

On the one hand, extending conscription to women could be more likely to hasten its end. Because society doesn't stand for abuse of women. You can see that in many professions, where cruel rituals are often abandoned when women enter the profession. For example, the old 90-hour workweeks for medical residents are going by the wayside, because more women are becoming doctors; it was ok to kill men with overwork, but women neither stand for it nor does society stand for letting women suffer that way. So maybe if some women start getting turned to meat in the trenches, we might start to realize how barbaric this ritual really is.

OTOH, what actually happens in practice is that when women are drafted, they're often spared from the front lines. Which actually winds up worse for the men, because women are disproportionately taking up the jobs in the rear. Women get the desk jobs, so it frees up more men for the death jobs.

In the end, I think the most moral path is that two wrongs don't make a right. Oppose the draft in all its forms, and frankly war. Anyone who evades the draft, for whatever reason, has my full support.

I wonder how viable it would be if men just refused to cooperate with any future conscription efforts. Massive campaigns of sabotage and ensuring that no commander felt safe with conscripts around might go a long way to preventing them in the future.

Could they jail us all?

Ok fine, stop complaining about emotional labor and unfair distribution household duties. Either accept that as fair for not having to do military service or support mandatory national service for women. You shouldn't be able to have both.

Victimhood olympics gold medal worthy stuff there. How TF are those two things even connected in any possible way? I am guessing men should start asking for special treatment because they do vast majority of shitty and dangerous jobs then? I'm sure the author would not have a problem with that? Not to mention not that many women of the national service age are even married with children. It boils down to "women have it worse so it's OK to make sexist laws that disadvantage men".

This kind of bullshit should really get called out more.

As I recall there were a lot of other provisions to this law, and some were understandably unpopular, though I cant remember what exactly. Difficult to say if this didnt pass purely because they didnt want women being conscripted.
