If they are forcing companies to hire and promote more women into their workforce and balance the gender ratio why don't they force schools and daycare centers to hire more men? And why haven't I heard about any lawsuits being filed for this kind of anti-male discrimination?

Here in NY, there's a teacher shortage, and it's getting worse as boomers retire.

There aren't enough qualified people, of any gender, to fill the positions.

It's similar with daycare- centers struggle to fill positions because of low wages and poor benefits.

So the problem needs to be tackled further up the pipeline. How can we get more male applicants to these jobs? Or, failing that, enough applicants to fill the need.

As someone who went to a teachers college and knew a male student who was becoming a K-6, it is mostly women. He was often times the only guy taking teaching classes. They still need to be accredited and up to certs and there needs to be men that want to do it. Can't create a passion for it either.

If there is an opening, they dont have a 50/50 gender talent pool. Not many guys dream of being kindergarten teachers. Even up to 3rd or 4th grade, not a lot of resumès to pick from that are guys. They will hire you if you want to do it and have the certs.

Ummm. There is no downside of more quality teachers (male or female). Many schools are desperate in Australia for more teachers.

There are considerable incentives available to people entering higher education to take up teaching, including government scholarships (for secondary - which is nearly 40% male), incentives and scholarships for those entering teaching as “change of career” participants. Much of the rhetoric around the teacher shortage, is due to additional expectations placed on teachers, administration and dealing with parents and “paperwork”. There is significant pressure to increase rates of remuneration, as it was traditionally believed to be a lower paid role (although in contrast to other countries this is not Necessarily the case).

Sometimes we need to look further than a mere gender war to explain reasonings for disparity in roles.

The solution to blatant discrimmination in jobs men have interest in isnt to advantage them in ones they arent interested in.

The likelihood of men getting accredited in teaching and being anything but a slightly less feminine woman is low.

There was a study on an experiment in Finland on male teachers who didnt fulfill the qualifications but were allowed to teach and their students performed better.

There is a real fear that men will have the wrong reasons for working with children. A very valid , very real fear. Mabye , there should be some real science poured into finding the reason behind the extremely high rates in men desiring younger people so the horrific problem can be solved and people can feel safe having men around their children
