What are your thoughts on make-up?

Numerous studies have shown that both men and women prefer natural makeup to no makeup or heavy makeup. Personally, I rarely wear makeup and when I do it’s light. My simple advice is to do whatever makes you feel good about yourself.

The only possible red flag I could see with the guy you describe is it sucks feeling pressured to perform. What if he expects a full face of makeup 24/7? That would be too much for me.

This guy is negging you, for one. He's trying to make you desire to prove yourself to him and he's not very subtle at it.

Generally speaking, this is a matter of taste. Some men love a high-maintenace woman who gets her nails done every 10 days, pays for expensive haircuts and designer clothes, wears a full face every day. Others want a more natural look, maybe some light concealer and eye makeup.

My husband has a ton of friends who married the high-maintenance type, because that's the kind of women he grew up with in rural Texas. The first time I met my his friends, I was really quiet on the way home until he pressed me on why. I explained that I was never going to be one of those girls. They took two hours to get ready to go grocery shopping. I had all the makeup I owned in my purse. They posted pictures of themselves hunting with their boyfriends/husbands, while the last thing I ever wanted to do was sit in the cold at 4 am and shoot something cute. He looked at me like I'd grown a second head and asked "Where do you think I've been for the last eight months? If I wanted to be with one of those girls, I would be. They take two hours to get ready for those hunting trips too. When they do go, all they so is take selfies. I don't want you to go hunting with me."

So, really, it's a matter of taste. This guy, however, is being an ass.

Different guys have different tastes, but the way I _think_ he meant it is there is the girl next door look and then there is the glammed up look. This is where you have the makeup, the hair done up, the jewelry, the dress, the heels, etc. The glammed up look can make sense when you are attending a fancy dinner or party or event of some kind.

The girl next door look is the effortless look, think jeans/ath-leisure/summer dresses/etc. where you are dressed in a more relaxed outfit.

Personally, I can see the desire for either based on the circumstance. Though, some guys may have a preference for the glammed up arm candy look, others may have a preference for the girl next door look.

The female equivalent would be how some girls would like their guys to dress like james bond (the sharp gentleman look), and others would like them to like a lumberjack or in a motor cycle jacket or gray sweatpants or whatever (the casual rugged man look). Most women would like a bit of both depending on the occasion.

Men don’t like the super dramatic makeup. Men like the subtler “natural” makeup.

Dark lip colors, heavy eye shadow etc. men don’t usually like very much.

If you ask a man who claims he doesn’t like makeup to point out a woman he thinks is beautiful, most of them are going to say something like Emma Watson (who clearly wears a lot of makeup), because they don’t know what makeup actually looks like unless it’s the super dramatic kind of

Honestly…. Don’t listen to men on what they want. They really don’t know. They will say this and that but still look at insta models or anything flashy. Do what you want to do and look how you want. If it’s over the top, be over the top. If you want plain jane be that. Whatever it is do it for yourself caz you can only keep up with who you actually are. I personally prefer balance. I think all men like eyes done and pronounced look with the eyes and brows but don’t look like a clown like you drew your whole face. Some people do look like they have a mask on and we know what men mean but they don’t know how to say it.

Do what makes you feel good. I wear it because it makes me feel beautiful & put together, which helps me face the day with more calm & confidence. If it made me feel like I was overdone or like a clown, then I wouldn’t wear it.

The most talented makeup artists will make you look like you're just naturally beautiful and not wearing any makeup.

Men only hate makeup that they notice!

If you notice makeup, botox, fillers or plastic surgery it hasn't been done well.

Find a better plastic surgeon or learn how to apply your makeup better.

Full text: I just had a guy I was chatting with tell me something like "you're a hotty in disguise." I pressed him on what this meant he said if I had make-up, heals dresses on in all my photos I would be a knock-out. I always wear some make up and dress nicely for dates but all but one of my photos are without make up. It doesn't make a massive difference but i can learn to do it better.

Anyway all I ever read online is how much men hate make up, how it's a scam, how much it sucks to be out with a 8 and wake up next to a 6. But men often don't even know if women are wearing make up. And i don't trust what they say. I trust what they do. But this is really where I am not sure. I would hate for a man to be disappointed by me when he woke up. But I also want to attract the best man possible.

I spoke about this to the guy who made the statement, and he said men who hate make up are rubes. It's just a way to spice life up. It encourages him to dress up and put on cologne. I like really like it when men do that.

So what are your thoughts about make-up. I am curious what the men in this group think in particular.

I like wearing makeup, and wouldn't wanna date a guy who's entirely against it. Most often I wear quite subtle makeup though, not so subtle that it's undetectable, but like it's not a heavy look either. But like I keep my base and eye makeup light and simple, and then on occasion I will wear a red lipstick, otherwise mauve, or just a pink lipgloss.

I dunno if a lot of men hate my makeup looks, but like I'm trying to go for more of a "classic" style, with some vintage vibes, and I don't cover up every imperfection on my face. You can still see texture and some of my natural color variations shining through, and I don't use contouring to alter my facial features. There's also quite a lot of days I just wear the lipgloss though, and nothing else on my face. And I'm confident enough with my natural face now that I've gotten a good skincare routine. Although I always keep my brows dyed and trimmed, those don't come off in the morning.

Basically, I do listen to what men generally like in regards to makeup, and I have heard around that the more "classy" looks, even the occasional red lip, get praised by men more often than other makeup looks. And I take that into consideration for how I do my own makeup. But I'm also aware men are not a monolith (on that point either) so there will be men who hate all makeup, as well as men who prefer heavier makeup looks, some who hate red lipstick with pashion, and some who think it's the sexiest thing ever. And so on.

So I dunno, but I think for me my aim is basically to partially lean on doing makeup looks that are generally more widely liked by men, but also allow myself to have my own makeup preferences and with that, trying to find a man who has similar tastes in makeup (and fashion in general) as I do. Because while I don't wanna be a complete chameleon with no sense of personal preference or autonomy, I also don't wanna be too rigid and self focused either. Basically I wanna find some balance between being considerate of a partner's feelings and preferences, how I'm perceived in a more general sense in public, and having a personality of my own.

First, I do think also he’s negging/ testing you.

Secondly, what is make-up creating? * it is covering blemishes and imperfections and makes you look healthier than you are .I am assuming, men who like „natural“ (the „no make-up“-Look) actually mean „healthy“. * it can warp your face so much that you appear as a completely different person, or exude a very different vibe, wear more colors (those not naturally flattering you sometimes can get away with heavier makeup), etc. Men like variety, and some strongly prefer that versatility („get many women in one“, sorta).

It might be worthwhile to consider these points.
