Are you literally insane? It's not like they're fucking your ass for 30$. Unless you find another better job, don't let this go. Money does not bring happiness maybe. But I'd still prefer being sad in my own apartment, while possessing my own car. Maybe I'd like to be sad in another continent. You get the idea.

The urge to fuck-off and do nothing is strong at that age, but your current earnings situation shouldn't be so easily disregarded. The problem with unions is that they have long, vindictive memories. Stepping out now could put a spot on your record that won't be so easily erased.

I would suggest a series of weekend travel breaks for relocation research in order to improve your career.

Also, get with an investment/financial planner to discuss early retirement goals. Find out what it would take to retire at age 45 vs age 65. Put your money to work for you instead of just letting it sit in a bank.

Traveling is one of the smartest and most fun things I ever did when I was younger, so my advice would be to travel.

What are you going to do with the money if not expand your horizon? Sure, you can buy a house, a car, get a wife, and live securely until you die. But is that very fun?

Id personally stay(or change jobs), put travel off for a couple of years. Work whilst you have the most energy, wait until a financial downturn.

Get the experience under your belt whilst your friends and competitors are taking it easy. Do the opposite.

A benefit of going at a later time is your SMV will naturally be higher than the men that travel at your age. Also no one talks about when you comeback and your seen as a "flight risk".

Make a long term plan for the best, worst and average outcome. Then calculate how much you want to have before quitting.

As young man your age I can't tell you much about the financial side but I can tell you this:

As someone who has travelled often it really is great. It's also not great. Depends more on the people you meet then the places you go. What are your reasons for travelling?

You're thinking too short term. The trip might make you happy, but what then? You've lost your job and likely will have to start over somewhere else with no leverage to improve your situation, and probably for less money. Now the nest egg is gone and you've got nothing to show for it but some vacation photos and a poorly done tattoo from a foreign country that likely gave you hepatitis.

Invest in yourself. Figure out what you'd rather be doing for a career and work towards that. Ideally you should try to manage both the current career and the education towards the future. The self discipline alone will make it worthwhile.

Leave SMV out of the work environment unless your work environment is a modeling agency or a strip club. Strive to up your alpha status at work instead. You have a good paying job that millions of people would literally kill for. Your job doesn't have to be rainbows and teddy bears all day. Do your 8 hours of work, and then go home and have fun with hobbies.

Instead, why not take a vacation or leave of absence? You say you are in a union, so you should have 2 or more weeks of entitled vacation. Don't fuck this up by giving up a decent paying job.

The best time to buy, vacation, etc., is when it's announced you're in a recession already - because that's when it's almost over and the realization has already set in and affected prices.

Keep the job and travel a week or two at a time. Do not just leave your secure, well paying job to travel. You will eventually have to come home, and when you do, you will start at zero if you leave your job.

I have a friend who travelled across the US last summer in his car. It was a great experience for him, and he had an awesome time. But he blew through every dollar he had, and now hes working a job that pays 15 dollars an hour, living with his parents, and doing a lot of drugs.

If you have 40k saved up, talk to an investment banker. Look into fi/re plans (financial independence/retiring early).

I am not saying stay, I am saying GET EDUCATED on your position. Learn your long term options.

I have met a few people who travel. US or Europe, on motorcycles, they claim to be able to do it on less than 5k a year living loose. So in, what 10 years, you will be back in a position to work again. If I could replay my life I would have worked harder in my twenties and play in my thirties.

My What Would I Do, put your money to work, work a few more years living very frugally, and then rethink it. I know at 21 I was not focused on doing or becoming anything, better to work on whatever when you are just bored. When you find your inner drive, pursue it.

Yeah man do it. You will always look back and wonder if you don't. I might not even have to quit. How long you planning on going? I'm going travelling for a month and my boss is okay with it.
