Having a deadbeat father does not negate the fact that a mother may feel bitter from experiencing a LVM's incompetence, negligence, mistreatment, and disrespect for fulfilling their fatherly duties. Instead, it's easier to play victim and feed into the "toxic angry ex bitter mother trope"....

Of course mom was bitter. She had to work full time, take care of the home, and raise the kids. While dad is away living his life. But now mom is not bitter anymore, the kids are grown and she has a clean conscience. Dad is deciding to come back, because he too has a conscience, but his kids do not care about him, never will. Dad looks 20 years older, because all these years he realizes he's a POS. Mom looks young, happy and full of life, because she never abandoned her children, and they have a close relationship. I fail to see how the mother's alleged bitterness has anything to do with a father refusing to even advocate for partial custody.

Most custody cases are settled out of court, and yet moms still have primary custody most of the time. This means most fathers aren't even trying. No wonder they're bitter.

I've seen my father's court records. My uncles actually told me what happened when I was 30. My mother's five brothers had to remove us (their four kids) from the house. They wouldn't let either one of them have access to us. They only let my mother have us once she had left him and agreed to divorce him. I know how high value men treat their wives from my uncles' marriages and my grandparents. Found out my father died two years ago from an aneurysm... A month after his meth arrest.

Dated a guy for a few months, he cheated, I cut him off. Whatever, on with my life. I didn't catch deep feelings or anything else thankfully.

He contacts me nearly a year later with a new number, trying to catch up. I wasn't up for his shit. He told me I had changed and was bitter. No, I just don't owe you my niceness. And then blocked him again.

I'm pretty sure bitter is code for "not a doormat."

Nah, my father was and still is a deadbeat. Every time we wanted to reconnect with him, my mother reached out to him for us, but he either never responded or he said no because he didn’t want to upset his wife aka the woman he cheated on my mother with. He started a whole new family and just erased his old one.
