If your entire contribution to humanity is your high score in some video game, then yes, I would consider you low value. If you are generally a cool guy, with lots of real life friends, and someone I'd be happy to have a beer with and chat about shit with, and you happen to also enjoy playing video games, I doubt that alone would make me consider you a loser.

Moderation is always the key.

I feel like any leisure activity is good/not good based on if it's interfering with anything.

Before everyone had a console and CoD the act itself was seen as a bit poindextery by I think that stigma has lessened tremendously.

I see it as an "escapist" flavor of leisure (reading a book, watching TV solo). So that can seem to have more negative impact if not self-policed.

To me there are two types of video games. Those that I play by myself and those that I play with friends online. As far as looking beta, sitting alone quietly playing solo games looks weak as fuck. You might as well stock up on mountain dew and doritos and carpel tunnel wrist guards. That's not to say you shouldn't do it, but it should be kept to a minimum, especially if your girl is there with you.

As far as playing games online with friends, I've actually gotten positive results from my girl. I think she likes hearing me and my friends give each other shit and fuck around. It reaffirms my place in our social circle since we don't hang out as much. Sometimes we'll make plans to hang out and stuff while we're playing, which is always good. The only times I've gotten BJ's while playing video games was when I was playing with real friends friends. I get looks of resentment and boredom from her when playing alone.

Basically, women only care about how the activity you're doing will influence her social status in the world. If you're playing video games as a part of your real world social circle it's going to look better than playing silently alone. That being said, everything in moderation. If your girl sees you sitting in front of the lonely glow of your tv or computer screen 3 or 4 days a week it's going to hurt your SMV. If you spend a lot of time at the gym and only a few hours a week playing games you should be alright. Even better if you're giving your friends shit and making plans for the weekend.

As a reformed gaming addict, I have a similar take to this.

How you choose to unwind is on you, if gaming let's to relax, then go for it. The question you have to ask is this: is there anything productive I could be doing?

If your gaming means lifting, working, hobbies, self improvement, etc take a back burner, then watch it. If the siding is falling off the house and your faucet has been leaking for a week, you've clearly got some things to take care of and haven't earned your opportunity to relax.

Sidenote: gaming, while social, is not a substitute for real social interaction. If the only time you spend with your group of guy friends is online, it's time to find another means of doing so.

I actually differ from a lot of people on mrp about video games.

My opinion is that I am much more efficient going 100% capacity 80% of the time rather than 60% capacity 100% of the time.

Everybody needs that downtime to recharge the batteries. For me, spending an hour or two a couple of nights a week unwinding by playing video games is fine.

Where it turns into a problem is if you're spending an inordinate amount of time playing. Or, if you spend 5 hours a week on video games AND 5 hours a week watching football AND 5 hours a week watching Netflix AND... You get the point.

I like games. mostly board games, but you have to be willing to drop it. I have games on my phone and iPad, but if something comes up its shut off and I am on it.

Like the man said it' can't be that ONLY thing you do. I just don't understand wanting to invest 6-7 hours a day in something that isn't real.

It doesn't add to your Social Market Value, usually, but I wouldn't say it's beta all by itself. You could be making better use of your time, but some hobbies are like that.
