How do you text like a RPW?

To forego the "rules" part others have covered and get to the "cute":

I like sending my guy mini-poems over text when I'm thinking of him. Usually silly, sometimes mushygushy.

We do a lot of teasing in reference to the next time we're seeing each other ("whoops I left my necklace at your place didn't I?" "oh no! You'll have to come back to get it" "pout, I guuuess so")

Randomness and unasked-for compliments are the most impactful. Sending him a "just wanted to say, I love the way you're _____" in the middle of the work day is really sweet and genuine.

I like to send him pictures of all the pretty flowers and wild bunnies I come across. Where he's living has much less wildlife and I like sharing that bit of brightness with him.

I actually do think there is an RPW way to text! Here are some guidelines I'd suggest and in the future maybe I'll flesh this out into a full post:

When you are first dating, let him initiate all texts (and calls) as much as humanly possible. You want to know that he is talking to you because he truly wants to. Also you'll know that you're not bothering him or interrupting whenever you do talk.
Limit text conversations as much as possible. Use it to discuss logistics and have quick, fun exchanges. If he wants to talk to you he can ask you on a date or call! You'll have more to talk about when you are face to face as well since you didn't share all of your stories and opinions over the phone.
Use emoticons/emojis and exclamation points to inject humour and a fun or flirty tone. I don't think that periods are necessary at all at the end of messages so I disagree about need proper punctuation all the time "I'll be there soon." sounds so harsh "I'll be there soon!" or "I'll be there soon :)" is wayy better
Proper spelling also isn't necessary depending on the way you approach it. An example would be repeating some letters for emphasis like I did about with "wayy" also "heyy" or "hii" is cute and flirty. "Heyy" gives off a DTF vibe so be aware of that.
Try to use "I" as little as possible. "That's great!" instead of "I think that's great!". If you are saying it, he will know that it is something you think.
Don't write paragraphs!
Mirror his writing style. Is he using short sentences and keeping it light? Don't drag down the mood or sent back paragraphs in response. Is he using full sentences and proper grammar? Don't use slang or say "u" instead of "you".
Don't send sexual photos or discuss sex at all in the extremely early stages of dating. This will put you in the plate/hookup/fwb category.
Don't confide personal secrets over text. Talking through a screen makes it easier to reveal sensitive information but don't fall into that trap!
When you are in a relationship, follow his lead when it comes to texting. Let him set the pace of communication, but you can still surprise him with photos, quotes, or jokes if you think it will brighten his day. Don't go overboard though, it's better to leave him wanting more than to overwhelm him.

All I have to offer is using proper grammar and responding as you would if it were an actual conversation. There's no "RPW" way to text. It's texting.

First you need to make sure you have sparkling water to sip. For more reference on how to do this please see an earlier post.

Second make sure your phone is pink or failing a pink phone it should be covered in a pink bedazzelled cover.

Now make sure you are always dressed up to the nines when texting a man. He will know if you have makeup on.

Finally use proper language and grammar. A lady does not emoj @ her m8s.

Texting is a second - possibly third - rate form of communication. It should be reserved really for logistics. "I'm on my way!" "Sorry I'm running 5 minutes late, I will be there in 20 minutes"

Conversations - especially with men - should be reserved for phone calls, much less is lost in translation.

As for a "RPW" I would say just be respectful. Use proper grammar as /u/whistling_dixie said. Additionally respect his time. He may not respond quickly. Don't word vomit. Give him a chance to respond when he is ready to.

This so depends on the man...I can initiate teasing and flirting over text but it will very likely to go unanswered or receive a generic answer. We're more of a "kiss a passionate goodbye in the morning and leave it be until evening" couple, which works because we're busy and introverts. We both hate talking on the phone and keep phone calls to mandatory information in short form.

Yeah the only way "quality women" text is to put some thought into what you're sending and why (what's the motivation? Attention?), and don't make any egregious grammatical errors. The first time he caught a typo of mine was three years in, and you can bet I got teased about that one. ;)

EDIT to say that one time in ten, when we both have a bit of leeway during the day, one of us will initiate something like, "Thinking of my [complimentary adjective] woman/man!! Can't wait to [perform sexual act] with you tonight!! [heart emojis]" and the other will respond in kind. Or one of us will make jokes about aliens. He's really into the ancient astronaut theory but can laugh at himself, so that one's always comedy gold with us.

Learn what level of communication the guy you like wants and expects and do that.

Just a polite thing to do is leave serious conversations for in person or at least a phone call. Just as you said, misunderstandings on both ends are much more common over text.

Is it okay to tease when you text-flirt?

-Yep, but try and keep to the banter teasing, and less off the sexual or emotional taunting. Men are very sensitive to women's interest or lack thereof, but not too sensitive about personal attributes and hardly sensitive at all about incidents or actions.

How do you let a guy know you're into him without actually asking him out yourself?

-I told Jon "I think I like you more than I should" via text. He responded "I like you just as much as I should". A bit of back and forth and eventually he managed to push me into asking him out first, though it was pretty obvious. But that's more Sigmas than texting. :P

-tell him that you like it when he touches you, as explicit or modestly as you like

-express gratitude for his efforts and admiration for his skills

-tell him about little things that made you happy, it can really brighten his day!

-call him by his nickname, or start using one only for texts

-just send him a heart or something, however simple it can lift his spirits

-cheerlead for big events and ask how his day is going

Are there any general rules of texting that RPW should know about?

-do it

-doesn't matter if you do it more than him

-probably doesn't mean anything if he's quiet, in general or for an hour or two

-don't use it to nag

-don't use it to complain

-talk to him about things that make you both happy

I use lots of nicknames when I'm talking to him, and I randomly just text "love you" throughout the day while he's working. I also send him pictures of our dog when he's doing something cute.

I think that other people have covered how to text during the dating phase very well. When you're LTRed, I think your texting habits should be about adding value to your SO's life and making his days better.

Some may feel constant texting endearing if the texting is light and fun, (NOT boring - if you only text while you're bored, there is a very good chance that your texts are boring) and obviously meant to brighten their day. Some may feel that constant texting of any sort is a power struggle over their time and attention, and will perceive you as demanding and selfish. For my SO, both can be true depending on what is on his schedule that day. I adjust accordingly.

One thing I do that I haven't seen mentioned is send selfies and other pictures.

I always like to send him an OOTD selfie, because he leaves for work so early that I'm always still bare-faced in my yoga clothes. Once I shower and get dressed, with my make-up and hair done, I send him a picture. It helps remind both of us that one of the things I bring into our relationship is an effort to cultivate beauty and femininity. It's one of those things that could be easy for him to start taking for granted, and easy for me to let slip now that we live together and our relationship isn't all fancy dates and weekends away.

I send him other selfies if there is a good reason to, but try not to do that girl thing. I also send him cute pictures and videos of his son, pictures of things I baked, fun things we do during the day, etc. He likes to have the pics to look at when he is tired, stressed, etc. to remind himself of why he works so hard.
