At the risk of undermining my own bitching, I had an idea:

The rise of the internet coincided with drastically accelerated political division - to the extent that there wasn't a huge difference from 1994 to 2004, but by 2014 both parties had grown worryingly distant from one another. If you use the internet and you use social media, you no doubt have experienced this, and no doubt have yourself staked out positions with one of the two camps moreso than the other.

Because of this, and because even our "real life" interactions are now somewhat mediated by our social media interactions... I wonder if the SMP has gotten partially bad because of this. I strongly doubt a more left-leaning woman of today would even give a passing chance of a relationship with a more right-leaning man, and likewise I strongly doubt a right-leaning woman would give the time of day to a left-leaning man. I mean, there's a ton of people out there on a fucking tripwire, they're ready to bitch each other out rather than communicate civilly and hear reasonable discussion about differing political positions. Then there's the whole thing where women are trending more left-wing, while men are trending more right-wing, which feeds into that discord highlighted above.

While I realize I can certainly be one of those people (the Dems totally support open borders, fight me), I also do try to hear arguments from "the other side" (those of you who have encountered me here know that, to me, "the other side" is generally the left) and have even up to very recently (December 2018) changed my mind on a big one... my concern is, that... if you haven't staked out your position, you're not really on anyone's team and both sides tend to hate you.

I'm wondering if you all think this might be part of the problem in the SMP/RMP these days.
