I grew up in a culture that looked down on premarital sex and adultery. If people found out you had premarital sex, you were stuck with that person because no one else would want you. With adultery, you would get your ass kicked and couldn't press charges. That isn't to say divorce didn't exist, but it is the very last nuclear option. Anyway, all of this is to say I've seen both sides of the coin.

IMO marriage only makes sense in that kind of society. Marriage and sex are supposed to be something special. I don't know how it makes sense that 10 guys have been inside the woman you call your wife or vice versa. How is sex any special at that point? You might as well be okay with others fucking your husband/wife while you're married. Cuz at that point it's simply a temporal difference, nothing more.

Anyway, I'm pretty ok myself because I have my own country from where I can find a wife who hasn't been with 10 or 20 dudes or even 3 dudes. You guys don't really have a choice because everyone in your culture finds premarital sex okay. So it's meaningless to hold yourself abstinent. But if I had the option, like I do, I would definitely choose the scenario where this isn't the norm and socially acceptable - I would choose the virgin girl as opposed to the possible N=5 girl.

What do you think about the concept of marriage within this context? I'm in an interesting position and thought this would be an interesting discussion.

IMO, your progressive culture is in a transitional state between old ways (Christianity and marriage) and new ways (atheism and casual sex). Eventually, marriage will die off.
