The idea that one single trait can make a male attractive as opposed to several: personality, style and physical traits that make up the image of the man is what matters, not just one little trait. That way of thinking one single trait is what ought to be put to rest.

I do not know why the “women of PPD” have to answer this and put it to rest in the name of all women. This is not some kind of zoo to just look at us and ask is weird questions that would otherwise be removed from r/askwomen. In terms of the height issue, there is no winning; if I say height does not matter too much to me, I am a liar, on the other hand if I say height matters, then I am an “AWALT” who has been corrupted by “feminism” causing “unrestrained hypergamy (some other nonsense)

There is nothing anyone here could say about the height “issue” that would give an grossly insecure person any solace. To answer your question the “big deal” with height is some insecure men ranting about some memes they found on Tinder. It is true that women do like taller men and that are attractive exist, it is also true that shorter or average height men who are attractive exist. It lacks perspective. (It may even be a detriment to an unattractive male because there will just be more him 😋😋)

You will never be able to lay this topic to rest because women are individuals just like men are. Some care a hell of a lot about having a man who's taller, some don't care at all, and a minority actually like being the taller partner.

I personally don't give a shit. I'm 5'8", one of my boyfriends is 5'11, and the other is 5'5". There's women out there who would deem both of them too short, even if she is only 5'4". It is what it is.

I find height is a factor in my attraction to men. I like men to be taller than me (I’m 5’4”) and I admit that a man who is already appealing to me is bumped up a factor if he’s also tall. But it is not an attractive feature on its own that trumps other physical features.

I think some women place more importance on height than I do and some much less. I would say the majority of women do like men to be taller than they are and many find taller than average men particularly physically attractive.

Height is very important to me, I have never dated someone who isn't a few inches taller than me, and I'm 5'10". I don't feel as feminine or 'protected' with a shorter guy.

height is very important for some women, others don't care as much.

generally most women would prefer the guy is at least taller than she is.

a lot of women will have a specific height in mind as a hard cutoff like they only want to date guys at least 6' or 6'2" or whatever. but women are actually terrible at estimating height and so many people say they are taller than they really are. a woman who says she has a hard cutoff of 6' will assume a confident guy who is 5'10" is at least 6' tall when she sees him in person.

in my experience, shorter than average / petite girls tend to be the ones who have a strong preference for significantly taller guys. a lot of shorter guys fuck up by thinking they should go for tiny girls when they would probably have better luck with girls closer to their own height.

Height, as some of the astute posters here mentioned, is just one trait on the list of physical attractiveness traits that a man could have. Based on available evidence, it's of medium importance.

I'd argue that people who obsess over any one physical trait (like a woman over height or a man over boobs) are probably messed up in the head in more ways than just that - they are best avoided.

Women are generally looking for a normal height difference. men and women differ in height so that's not that unreasonable.

Some women are really into height.

there are some handicaps for guys who are shorter than the average woman (say 5'4" or under). Guys over that height generally do fine by most metrics.

Height in European populations was pretty swingy over the last half of the 1800s with some generations much shorter than others, it was not the end of the world and people still paired up and had kids.

There have been periods in history where height has been negatively selected for in populations - for instance, the ancestors of some Chinese people were taller than their descendants.

I personally believe that height is more cultural than biological. As a short man (5'6) that often does business in China, there is marked difference with how women respond to me there than here. In China, I'm able to easily date women much taller than me. Height doesn't seem to matter much at all there.

In the US, I've found it to be, by far, one of the most important attributes that a man can have (if not the most important).
