This isn't really a problem.

If intelligent robotic slaves were to be invented and produced en mass at low cost, the price of goods would drop so low that a basic income would be introduced and working hours would be slashed.

It would be amazing.

Robots replacing humans would be a good thing. It would lead to newer jobs, and eventually a basic income.

Look at it this way. Corporations want to make money. Imagine that robots hold 70% of labor jobs. Who will buy nike shoes? Who will eat at chipotle?

The prices of nike shoes would eventually drop to $15, chipotle is going to cost $0.50, etc. Eventually a basic income would be introduced. It is not in the billionaire's best interests to have products which people cannot buy.

I spent a while working in robotics, we made automated solutions for agriculture and manufacturing industry. Part of the sales package we pitched to prospective customers was the net present worth calculations based on how many workers they could make redundant. It was the basic selling point. But if they kept their job, me and our suppliers would have lost ours. It's a dog eat dog world. Robots are bad for low skilled workers but create massive job opportunities for skilled workers.

As we become more automated obviously high tech jobs will increase but so will artesian, recreation and hospitality industries

Robots will probably not become as advanced as to function as actual humans . There will be certain jobs that robots will never be able to do. However , robots might replace hard labor .

Also maybe humans will turn themselves into humanoids in the future . Have you watched Ghost in the Shell ?

If you're worried about the coming rise of automation, quite apart from sex bots, the key there is understanding that there will be winners and there will be losers in the drive to automation. As with everything else involving a free market, you want to be with the winners and not with the losers.

The winners will be the highly skilled workers. The rise of automation will continue and accelerate the established trend of more money going into the pockets of those with more skills, education and creativity -- this will be accentuated and accelerated by the rise of automation.

The losers will the the lower skilled, lower educated workers whose jobs are more easily replaced by automation. They have already lost a lot of ground, economically, and will continue to do so as automation becomes more widespread.

So the key is being highly skilled, and in a way that interfaces well with a world where much of the "grunt work" has become automated.

In theory, this creates a great opportunity to re-tool the lower skilled workers into more highly skilled workers, thereby improving their productivity and incomes, through education and advanced training programs for "mid skill" type jobs. That may happen, and it's the "optimistic" scenario hoped for by many in light of what has happened in previous cases of technological transformations of work (i.e., net/net jobs shifted, rather than going away). The idea is that this will continue in this case as well.

A more pessimistic view is that it will be hard to train everyone up be at least middle skill, and that the total number of jobs is going to decrease no matter what because automation will eventually encroach upon everything other than the highest grey matter type jobs -- and perhaps even there as well, eventually, as we make smarter and smarter machines (never mind an AI, which is still speculative). The pessimistic view sees this as less of a continuity with previous technological transformations, and more of a discontinuity.

At this point, there is simply disagreement between the optimists and the pessimists. Everyone does agree, however, that automation is coming, and quickly, and will be disruptive at least in the short term. In light of that, it behooves everyone to set themselves, and their children, if any, up to be in the "winners" rather than in the "losers" as automation takes hold.

They said the same thing about automation.

When they started using combustion engine tractors to plow fields it cost a lot of jobs, but in the end people moved on and adjusted.

People will learn how to make money doing something else.

First, someone has to make the robots, program the robots, supervise the robots, transport the robots, install the robots, repair the robots. These will likely all be high paying jobs.

What's more is that when productivity increases so to do profits. When profits increase so to do wages (usually).

We cannot envision what the future will bring, but it stands to reason that with more and more people freed up from doing mundane and menial tasks like mopping, digging, and sucking dick, that humans will have more time to engage in art, science, and space exploration.

The people who are most at risk are those with below average intelligence. With fewer menial tasks that means fewer jobs. More intelligent people can be retrained.

Sadly, our welfare system rewards people for making babies they can't afford and people with lower intelligence are for more likely to reproduce out of wedlock and thus bring more below average people into the world.

Well- I guess capitalism has done its job. Only someone who is completely indoctrinated and brainwashed by capitalism would think it's a BAD thing that society will eventually become fully automated.

Think about what you're saying- someday soon, machines will be able to produce enough resources for us ALL to live comfortably! And your concern is...that there won't be enough jobs left for people to work to earn money to afford those goods? L-O-fucking L, do you understand that money will mean nothing once we've automated things to the point that robots can just produce enough for everyone? It's called a post-scarcity economy. Nobody will need jobs anymore.

But I guess if you lived in the Star Trek universe, you'd be walking up to people who made food with their replicators and smacking it out of their hands and telling them they have to work or else they starve to death, even though there's no need for work anymore because robots do it all.

See, the thing is...once we've automated enough things, people simply won't have to work, we can create art or explore the universe or do whatever, because the machines will make the things we need. And like...we're already partway there, we're already in a situation where we throw away so much food that the garbage could feed every starving kid, and we literally have more empty houses than homeless people...but we should just waste those resources because people don't have JOBS! And that problem is because of people like you- people who think that everyone should be forced to work a pointless busywork job just to survive, even if the resources already exist to support that person.

If you had your way, in the future, when machines can do every little thing for us, you'd still have people digging ditches and then filling up, just doing pointless work in order to "earn" the stuff they need to survive, even though plenty of that stuff already exists and could be given for free.
