Of course there is a meaningful difference. To properly explain it, I'll need to use a crude metaphor though. This is not meant to be taken as truth, merely an example scenario. Sweeping generalizations incoming:

I have a negative opinion of dogs, especially when compared to cats. Dogs require much more time, resources, and attention than cats. Dogs need constant care. Dogs cannot properly clean themselves. Dogs cannot "do their business" inside the home without major accommodation or training. Dogs are messier and more destructive than cats. Dogs are more dangerous to children than cats.

Now then, all that said, I DO NOT hate dogs at all. In fact, I love dogs. Dogs are wonderful creatures who generally enrich the lives of those around them. Dogs are loyal and fun, and will shower you with unconditional love. But, as a strict pragmatist, I still have a negative opinion of them. However, I don't treat every interaction with a dog as a burden or inconvenience, nor would I ever mistreat one. I welcome dogs of all shapes, sizes, and breeds into my home regularly.

Yes, of course. I have a negative opinion of lawyers and their profession, but that doesn't mean I hate them or hold that trade against a person who happens to work in it if I get to know him/her.

Yes, of course. A negative opinion will not affect your actions and your life as much as hating them.

For example, hate could make you want to take revenge.

I'd say, yes. If you see it as biological, you wouldn't blame them. They couldn't do much about it. If it is because of them being brainwashed (that is: "letting themselves be brainwashed") by society and at the same time reaping benefits because they benefit by how women are treated by society, you'd be much more likely to develop hatred than just a low opinion.

Is it an issue of how negatively you see them?

Isn't that a no-brainer? If not, could you please clarify?

Depends what you mean by "hate". People use hate to mean, interchangably, "strongly dislike", and "wish harm upon".

There is no meaningful difference as your base opinion (hate vs really negative) creates an inner belief that taints all of your interactions with that gender.

If you are having these sorts of thoughts you may wish to examine what is going on inside your head because something is fucked up in there.

I don't think it's possible to truly hate a gender or to have a low opinion of a gender as whole. People who seem to hate men/women are probably projecting feelings they have towards actual people/themselves onto a broader category.

It's impossible to have genuine emotion towards an abstraction.

No, there is no difference between hating a gender and having a "really negative opinion of them". That is what hate is - a disdain for something to a significant extent.
You can change your opinion on a subject, but no, it makes no difference WHY you hate the subject if you do hate them.
Yes. Opinions are subjective. Hence, your own opinion ("how negatively you see them") is derived from your own personal perspective.

A common example of people who use certain variables to justify hating something by saying in different words that they certainly hate them:

Person 1: God, I hate cats. If I walk past one on the street, I hiss at it. Stupid things.

Person 2: Really? I have a cat.

Person 1: Oh, I didn't know that. It's... well, it's not that I HATE cats. It's just that they're so selfish and not interested in you at all. All they care about is food and they don't care whether you come and go... they destroy the local wildlife... they bite you whenever they feel like it... their moods change all the time, they shit and piss everywhere... they NEVER come when you call them... and my nephew is allergic to one, and one time it deliberately bit him and he swelled up so badly. They're just ugly, too.

Person 2: So you do hate cats.

Person 1: No, it's just... I'm more of a dog person, I guess.

Person 1 is deflecting.

(For the record: I like both cats and dogs, but prefer and own dogs. I don't hiss at cats on the street. I will attempt to pat them.)
