There's a lot of variation in people who identify as RP so it's hard to narrow it down to one general stereotype of what they were before they stumbled across it. I'll try to give a general overview of where I think people seem to be coming from.

The population on the main sub seems to be mostly split between old-style PUA types, manospherians, recent divorcees/unhappy married dudes and inexperienced guys in their late teens/ early twenties.

Writing style tends to give away what type they are; 'le edgy' posters are more likely to be late teens/ early twenties (though sometimes manosphere types do that too,) the really, really angry posters are the virgins or the recent divorcees, the PUA types are in love with acronyms and the manosphere types get very into the more political/ philosophical aspects of the whole thing.

Obviously all of the above is a generalization, but it seems to loosely bear out in many cases from what I've seen.

I always imagine them as dumpy, nerdy high school guys who think that the way to get a girl to want them is to be her personal errand boy and shoulder to cry on. Then they figure out this doesn't work and they swing WAY too far in the opposite direction and think that the way to get girls to want them is to treat them like irrational children.

That's sorta how it works...I was one that ate up dating advice. The "be yourself" and "be there for her" and "buy her presents" type stuff.

I think the biggest issue is that a lot of RP guys have a hard time setting boundaries, because they fear they will lose the girl if they don't bend over backwards to please her. Happened to me, where I didn't set boundries and I was allowing myself to be manipulated to simply have someone that I thought cared about me. Hell, my first real GF would call me crying about her family and after we broke up would call me while she cut herself...I mean, its fucked up but what was I supposed to do?

Keep in mind, I had a good family, both parents present and involved, no abuse, etc. I wasn't terribly overweight given my height. So its just a matter of not being comfortable being assertive, trying to please everyone...

Yeah, like they're so socially stunted that they believe Michael Cera movies are real life.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Had below average social skills, high standards for their level of attractiveness.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I assume they were mostly people who had problems in their dating/personal life.

people who had problems in their dating/personal life.

No one is without problems. So really, your comment says "they were just like everyone else."

Look, forget dating for a moment. Let's use farming as an analogy. Even with modern science and a very complete understanding of what makes plants grow, it's still work. There are still occasional problems. What agricultural science promises is not "problem-free farming" but rather, "an understanding of the true principles involved, which will serve as a guide and allow you to achieve success, or explain your failures."

That's TRP. It's an attempt to accurately explain the world.

You happen to disagree with the explanation, and that's fine, but let's stay with the analogy and I'll tell you what farming was like before TRP. What we were told about what makes plants grow wasn't true - even if it sometimes appeared to work. It was like praying. "Please god, bless me with a bountiful harvest."

When the crops grow, blue pillers confidently conclude that praying worked. And if they fail, you conclude with equal confidence that I didn't pray enough. Your theory is internally consistent in that way, I'll give you that.

You also criticize the things that I believe do work. You say that I must hate plants, since I want to "cover them with shit" - I say it's not my fault that they appear to like fertilizer. You say, "if water makes plants grow, then why isn't this lake full of corn?" And my favorite criticism of all; "all plants are different" which is of course true, but not helpful.

And finally with the analogy, someone asks "what were TRPers like before they gave up praying?" and your answer, of course, is that "they had problems growing crops." But that's not addressing the issue at all.

Standard shy/angry kid who didn't understand jokes or references made by others, didn't understand when his presence was undesired because he couldnt grasp the social cues. Probably was bullied, or bullied other people.

The "problem kids" who had anger/aggression issues and always disrupting class with their BS. The kids who'd ask the teacher stupid questions to challenge their authority. Also the kids who never spoke up and seethed quietly that so and so chick didn't like them back.

[–]Yonderlander1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Definitely an element of being on the spectrum- low empathy and some level of social failure.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The typical. Guys who complain womens don't like nice guys like them, instead go after assholes. So they decide to idealize, emulate those assholes that were getting laid.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Nice guys. Thinking that if they do nice things for people they'll get what they want. Emphasis on they want. Also...these 'nice' things were never asked...you should do nice things because you want to, not because of a potential payout. And if you don't want to do nice things just because, then don't!

[–]CyraleaRedPill Vanguard1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

That's a really tired strawman that I can't believe is still being thrown around in this sub.

Nice guys are genuinely nice. You're hamstering a reality to vilify them, it justifies your world view. It just so happens that niceness doesn't beget attraction, not where it doesn't already exist.

These nice guys are legitimately nice, and it feels good to them that their main mode of operation is what also attracts women, or so they think. As it happens, it doesn't work that way. That's literally why you have so many angry former nice guys in the main sub. They were told that being nice was inherently a good thing.

or so they think. So they aren't legitimately nice after all.

[–]CyraleaRedPill Vanguard0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You misunderstood that part. Or so they think means they thought that the way they were naturally was attractive to women. The same way that you naturally assume being polite and courteous will beget politeness and courteousness from strangers. You don't do it strictly for that reason, it's just something you've come to expect.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The same way that you naturally assume.

See they aren't being genuine. You don't do things for returns. They are fakes.

[–]CyraleaRedPill Vanguard0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You literally missed every point I just made by asserting the opposite.

[–]wtknightHardcore Romantic1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They were probably either quiet and withdrawn, or that annoying guy who is constantly texting a woman even after she shows no interest. Pre-Red Pillers are also high in envy, as they always seem to be jealous of what "Chad" can get. I'm guessing a lot of them didn't have healthy relationships with their mothers, either, and likely didn't have a father to teach them proper masculine values, as the misogyny isn't something that suddenly develops when one takes the Red Pill.

Madonna/whore complex couldn't be any stronger in RP.

not blue but for the hell of it.

i think some were men who got stepped on by other men. some had women they loved truly, but got screwed over and cheated upon or leeched and lied to. hurt basically by women.

add. some where probably even cuckolded. simply put emotionally abused maybe? at one point things just snap you know.

some havent had the chance to even try to love women, as they are rejected repeatedly. seeing these same women they wanted to love being ruined by men they called assholes, that is psychologically damaging. my best friend in college was like that. after, he actually just naturally turned trp even without knowing what trp is.

some already had it good to begin with. the top down view can be intoxicating and blurs things. from the beginning they got it so easy that they just naturally started to see women as of small value, abundant supply = less value.

some are just traditionalists, probably from foreign cultures. (why this is in bold i dont know how that happened)

I try to see things as we are all naturally neutral, in opinion. life then comes in and turns you blue or red. the struggle is to get back to that neutral zone and be able to control when to turn blue or red, as the situation demands. blue or red in permanence, i think is not always ideal in maximizing your experiences in life.
