As a guy, I've always found this weird. I remember dating a girl who worked for Teach for America...I thought how it would be "kinda" cool to show her off...something that comes across well at a cocktail party (at a very superficial level). This was very fleeting of course, I found her annoying so she got nexted. For the vast majority of men, the prestige of a female's career doesn't matter much.

For women, I've heard it matters a lot. Many women derive their social status from the men they date. There's a girl who has a boring job at my work and I feel she almost lives vicariously through her boyfriend. She's constantly talking about his job.

I've heard in military social groups, the pecking order of the wives depends on the military ranking of her husband. Pretty interesting.

I've always wondered...lets say a woman is introduced to a boring, nerdy guy. He is unstylish, "dad bod", not very engaging. But after a few minutes it turns out he's a dentist !!! What is going through the woman's head? As a guy, I can't imagine myself in the same shoes getting much more attracted at that point.

Also, there is a girl in my social circle who went to Boston Unversity (decent school, but 2nd tier). However, she will ONLY date Harvard/MIT guys. I feel at the upper end (Ivy league/near Ivy), school matters more. There was a Time or newsweek article on dating apps, and one of the things they talked about for guys, the pedigree of the college they went to matters. Very interesting stuff.
