It's a simple philosophy but hard to live out.

By making yourself uncomfortable at times, you not only learn to enjoy comfort when it comes around, your body and mind become resilient to the future effects of discomfort.

Cold showers - Small 30-600 second discomfort, huge comfort the rest of the day feeling resistant to temp changes, clear headed, energetic, and with the knowledge that you started your day with more guts than any person you walk by that day.

Lifting - Yeah, it takes energy and willpower. Yeah it takes time. Yeah it makes you sore. But the benefit is more energy, more willpower, possibly more time (longevity) and higher quality time.

There are many more examples. The point is there are things that create discomfort. Embrace this discomfort and not only will you improve physical resilience, you'll improve mental resilience (maintaining frame, embracing rejection, being alpha).

The second half of this is delaying gratification. Not only should you be uncomfortable, you should actively avoid those tiny things that bring you pleasure throughout your day.

No, I'm not talking about playing music, texting friends, and other small activities that bring you pleasure. Those are things that keep your smv high. I'm talking about things that would generally be neutral or would lower your smv.

Shitty food / snacking constantly - everyone here should either have a kick ass diet or be working towards one. If you aren't, learn to delay the gratification in the shitty food you desire most. Eating dessert every night? Make it every other night. (Not hard at all, just illustrating a point.) Plenty more examples (drugs, porn, internet, reddit, tv).

Gradual adjustment of a few activities in your day helps you grow. It's the small victories that lead to big ones.

If your goal is to learn to say no to whoever you want because it's not something you want, you need to learn to say no in smaller chunks.

If you want to be tough enough to withstand a woman trying to get inside your head, you need to toughen up by taking damage in smaller pieces. Build some calluses.

Final note, these principles should be implemented both in your actions and mood. Be happy that you get such a great reward for so little invested. The reward for embracing discomfort and delaying gratification is always more than the time invested.
