He also acts pouty and playful. I call him crocodile, he calls me panda. We use disgusting baby voices with each other. Really we're that gross gooey couple that everyone calls "so cute!"

Uh, I think I understand what you're getting at? I guess for me, it's similar to acting "bratty," in D/s relationships. In those instances, I was usually looking for sexytimes, or to be "punished".

In my current relationship, I'll sometimes start acting like some kind of animal, a dog or a sloth or something, in order to act "cute." My partner responds by playing along (rubbing my belly as if I were a dog, or pretending I really am a sloth or snake or whatever). I enjoy it and think it's fun. Sometimes he'll pretend to be an animal, and I'll humor him, or whatever. Belly rubs or ear scratches. It's a game we both enjoy not in a sexual way, just because it's silly and cute and fun.

Edit: I tried to answer your question, but I think I might just sound odd. My relationship dynamic is probably vastly different from what you were talking about!

uh, not really? I mean my husband and I are playful in our own way, but I don't find cutesy-pouty an endearing quality, I actually find it rather annoying.

Not really. I'll ask if he would want to do something, and he'll agree or disagree. If he disagrees I'll ask what he wants to do instead. I never try to be cute about any of it. Sometimes he (or I) will playfully tease about not doing it. It's usually met with something like "Why do you gotta be like that" or "don't make me get the bat". Again this goes two ways and I'll often do it to him. We are very playful though. Just now, after sharing this thread with him it was pointed out I don't pout, but I will poke. So we started a tickle wrestling match that ended with him groping my breast. I accused him of sexual harassment and he maintained eye contact and did it again. That's more of what we do.

Do people do that? Maybe we are just extra affectionate but we never ask to cuddle, we just do it.

My boyfriend also acts pouty and playful. We do it with each other. He also does some mean renditions of Elton John songs in a Muppet voice. We like to goof off together sometimes.

We both ask to cuddle sometimes if either of us has a fever and only one thing can cure it; more cuddling. I wasn't aware that was weird.

I dislike being teased. I respond very negatively to that, it makes me uncomfortable because I don't have any natural instinct of how to play along and will take it as sincerely offensive since it doesn't make any sense to me to do that. It's really immature to do that, especially when the other person isn't playing around and the guy (or girl) decides now is a good time to be obnoxious and pretend insult them. I will never understand why some people think that's a good idea.

If I'm being pouty and cute, my boyfriend probably started it by being pouty and cute. We're both pretending to be a kid because it's funny. It's a game, or a faux SNL skit, like if we were both kids when we met instead of adults, we would be like that.

Can you explain what pouty is supposed to mean in your version of relationship dynamics? I'm using it assuming you mean "complaining about things like a kid" like "I don't wanna". Since my bf and I will pretend to be kids, I'll say we both do that pouty thing as part of the game were playing along with.

It sounds like you might mean the girl whining like a kid in an effort to get their way ("can I have pony? Pleeeeaaaase?") and her boyfriend acting like her older brother (or lightly emotionally abusive and immature father is probably what you're aiming for? My dad didn't act like that so I can't relate) and saying no to things while having fun at her expense? That's not part of what my s/o and I do. That would be rather weird if I was into that, especially since I'm 4 years older than him. Like Freudian level weird.

I definitely don't act pouty or "cute". We are adults in an adult relationship. If anything, he's the cutesy one.

Pouty? Absolutely not.

Playful? Yes, but this usually involves banter/exchanging barbs. I was raised by New Yorkers and enjoy a good "reading." NOTE: This is not the same as crapping on each other. I would not crap on an SO and I do not enjoy being crapped on. It is all the difference between an arm wrestle and punching someone in the face.

Okay. I feel like you asking this is just not understanding the behavior.

First, kids and babies are cute by design. Evolution says they are helpless and will die easily without a caretaker. So they have traits appealing enough to make you want to care for them. Large eyes, fuzziness, cute smiles, they seek to charm you. Nearly all babies have this cute factor that draws on our instincts to feed care and protect. If they didn't we would have just left them in the forest to die for all the shit, screaming and other stuff they do.

Adults generally lose this appealing behavior when they get old enough to fend for themselves. It just isn't useful as much.

But play is still a huge part of social interactions and bonding behavior. We don't use it in formal settings and it has no place in casual ( people we don't care for) settings. But it is vital for relationships that are close. It shows you are a balanced adult that can handle things without flipping out. You know when things are joking and can give and take without getting upset.

Cuteness can be manipulative, but in the context of play in relationships it helps to appeal and calm. Humour is important. Think about having a shit day at work. You are stressed, uptight, and get home still feeling on edge. You walk through they door and your so grads you for a cuddle, cracks a joke, and does any number of other thing that has become an inside joke with your relationship. Some of the comments here are good examples, kidnapping a stuffed animal is something you just can't take seriously. There is no danger mode or alarm bells. Your stress is forgotten as you engage in play. Your imagination is activated in responding to this. You simply don't have the mental capacity to engage in both stress and play and what is right in front of you takes priority. This is vital to your wellbeing, the ability to snap you into a good mood and stop your brain from producing the stress hormones is inbuilt to mating.

So if you don't already, learn to be cute and play.
