I found this comment on college health studies enlightening. I didn't believe it initially, until I replicated the results myself; the math checks out. Numbers from the ACHA health assessment on oral, anal, and vaginal intercourse for 2010 are used. The men have an average partner count of 1.72 in the last 12 months, and the women have an average partner count of 1.23 over the last 12 months, which seems to indicate that overall, women are being less promiscuous. However, if you go through and find the population average for men, assuming a maximum partner count of 9, this value comes out to ~1.4. To get an average of 1.72 across the whole male population, the top 3% of men had to have an average partner count of just over 19. Using this figure to estimate the total number of hookups across the population, you find that 3% of men are responsible for a staggering 29% of all hookups.

I'd encourage anyone else to go through and replicate the numbers for themselves, because they're almost certainly correct. I also repeated the methodology for girls (which the original commenter didn't do), and the results were much flatter. The top 3% of girls are having 9% of the hookups, though the overall distribution is much more even. As a group, the top 3% of males are having more sex than anyone else. Not saying 80/20 is correct, but there is genetic evidence that 60% of males never reproduced in the history of our species. This is in stark contrast to 80% of women who successfully reproduced. Call it the 80/40 cave man rule. This means the group of genetic male 'losers' if you will was nearly 3 times as large as females.

It isn't that 20% of the men are with 80% of the women, not really. What we're talking about is a shorthand for the idea women want to get with a small percentage of men (who do have much more sexual success than the population at large, which shouldn't be a shock to anyone). It's in essence an intersection of the Perato Principle, Hypergamy, and the sexual marketplace.

Specifically, the tab for "frequency of sex". The data is dated 2010, which should be modern enough. The chart "percentage of male reporting frequency of vaginal sex" does not show percentages but it can easily be calculated. Because I have read other comments on this post that it would be hard to convince you, I have worked out some of it for you. To make the "rule" clear. I will state it as such, Roughly 20% of men will have 80% of the sex (premarital and with relatively young women).

So lets begin. As such, the chart can be reduced to the first 2 column and section of rows.

For group single/18-24, 29.2% of men have 93.17% of the sex (the group collectively have had). and 10.2% of men have 52.75% of the sex For group single/25-29, 31.2% of men have 87.47% of the sex For partnered/18-24, 36.0% of the men have 74% of the sex For partnered/25-29, 33.4% of the men have 67% of the sex

To demonstrate the calculation method I have written out the first statistic.

(.1952+.08104+.022208)/(.13912+.1952+.08104+.022*208) = 93.17% Notice that I have rounded up for "a few times for year to monthly" and "a few times a month to weekly" as 12 and 52 times a year respectively. and rounded down for "4 or more" as simply 4 which should be in skew in favor of your bluepill views and yet it still shows that a minority of men (30ish percent) have 67-93 percent of the sex depending on category.

Now I realize that this means of calculation tells an incomplete story.
First, the data does not show how many men are single and how many are partnered.
If we assume a middle ground of 50/50 of single/partnered for 18-24 then 18.1% have 68.3% of the sex all age 18-24 have. and 18.8% of men have 55% of the sex.
Secondly, I have added the two restriction because I don't care much for 30+ post-wall women and though a lack of sex is enough reason for divorce, sex itself is not enough reason for marriage. Not to mention it makes the calculations easier. Of course the data only shows the age of men and not that of the women they sleep with, but it is safe to assume that men and women generally sleep with people their own age.

In conclusion a statistically accurate statement of the "rule" is that 29.2% of men have 93.2 % of the sex for single and 18-24 men and as men age and become partnered, the gap shrinks to 33% having 67% of the premarital sex.

To me it just seems like a half-assed generalization.

That's because it is. The Wikipedia entry for the Pareto principle says this:

Management consultant Joseph M. Juran suggested the principle and named it after Italian economist Vilfredo Pareto, who observed in 1906 that 80% of the land in Italy was owned by 20% of the population; Pareto developed the principle by observing that 20% of the pea pods in his garden contained 80% of the peas.

It (the Wiki entry) says precisely nothing about the application of this principle to human mating strategies. The manosphere/RP has chosen to apply this principle, which even in the matter of land distribution in early 20thC Italy hasn't been 'proven' correct - it is a theory not a law - based on literally nothing.

The OKCupid survey would not be accepted by anybody with an understanding of and respect for the scientific method. Doesn't matter who is making the argument, to call that survey problematic in terms of extracting hard truths is an understatement!

We also, below, have a link to a newspaper article from the Sydney Morning Herald and a RPer basically saying they feel like it's true and so it is.

Vornash is the only one who has posted anything of interest re: a rough 80/40 historical rule (80/40 is a very different ratio to 80/20) and that would be an interesting discussion to have if all parties would be willing to accept right off the bat that even if the 80/40 ration could be proven beyond doubt, that in and of itself says nothing of the reasons why (i.e. it isn't automatically or entirely "because women are picky bitches").

RP: The onus is on YOU to prove the 80/20 rule. The OP could say "well I think the 80/20 rule is bs because I had a dream in which a magical feminist fairy told me it was." You (RP) still have to prove the claim you are making, regardless of your feelings re: the credibility of those who disagree with you.
