I was in my mid-20s by the time OLD became prominent. I'd already destroyed half of my brain through drink, drugs and syphillis by that time because I was chasing women. But this was a happier time in many ways, you just had to find someone who roughly shared your interests and was roughly as ugly as you and as drunk or high as you. Now no one has proper interests because they are all farting about on Instagram or posting stupid knitting pictures on pinterest. But on the other hand, we have Tinder. I started using Tinder in my mid-30s and it was like a girlfriend catalogue. And I can't drink anymore because I have a fatty liver, so I guess it depends on how you look at it.

Both. There is gonna be a net benefit to those already at the top. While a detriment to everyone else.

Detriment. Not because of the usual "Women won't date average local guys now that they can meet 'Chad' online" garbage. If anything, the internet makes it easier for absolutely everybody of both sexes to be exposed to more people and have more dates, more sex, and more relationships.

Where things go wrong is in today's ADD instant gratification dumbed down only read numbered lists culture, there's a greener grass phenomenon. Everybody, of both sexes, is hesitant to commit or invest in anybody else, because that next swipe, that next date, that next time you go out could be even better than this one. So everybody treats everybody else like they're expendable because there's always that next swipe and that next date.

The end result is people going through phases. Women especially oscillate between hookup mode and boyfriend mode. They'll date around and have sex for a few months, then get sick of all the assholes and the dating game and decide they're not looking for that any more. Then they have a boyfriend for a few months until he turns out to be a lame loser or until he turns out to be an asshole like all the hookup guys. Then she goes back into hookup mode for a few months to get over him, figuring if she played by the good girl rules and things still didn't work out, why bother being good. And the cycle repeats.

Men go through a cycle, too. It's a little different, but the same idea.

Most people use the internet as a distraction from actually forming real bonds with other humans, so overall it’s probably a detriment. It’s possible to use the internet to meet people who are more like oneself than the people who one meets on a daily basis in real life, but most people don’t choose to use the internet like this.

I met two of my LTR’s through online communities. I know a bunch of other people who met in the same way (co-play games, fan/common interest sites, writing/art sites, RPG’s, MUDs, ect.)

But I guess it’s more accurate to say that people who are good at meeting new people will have more avenues through which to meet people. For them, it makes things even easier. People who suck at making themselves appealing in general will probably continue to struggle, as internet anonymity has a way of exposing clowns and edgelords that real-life interactions don’t do.

A little bit of both. It makes girls even more superficial and increases their N-counts. However it makes finding out a girls N-count easier. Which makes it easier for men to vet for the right girls.

I'll let the ladies decide the impact it has in regards to men.

On the male side, probably. Porn, online gaming and other distractions make dating not worth the time for many young men.

I could only imagine how much less men will want to deal with women as technology advances.
