So Roosh has been shitting on the Alpha/Beta dichotomy in his quest to promote his new knockoff version of TRP.

To help tidy up everyone's mind from Roosh's messy hamstering thought-spaghetti, I'd like to do two things:

  • Explain how I understand the Alpha/Beta dichotomy.
  • Reaffirm the real-life importance and conceptual validity of the Alpha/Beta dichotomy.

How I Understand the Alpha/Beta Dichotomy

I define Alpha and Beta behaviorally. The best way that I have PERSONALLY found to understand the Alpha/Beta concept is through the lens of behavior and social interaction.

When I was growing up, I noticed something about girls. When they thought I was "above" them in some type of social hierarchy, then they wanted to fuck me. When they thought I was "below" them, they didn't. My understanding of the A/B dichotomy is backed out of this simple and personal observation from my own life.

In a conversation, there are a few strategies you can use:

  1. You can play the role of being socially "above" the other person. (This role usually involves: dominance, leadership, assertiveness, etc.)
  2. You can play the role of being socially "equal" to the other person. (This role usually involves: collaboration, conversation.)
  3. You can play the role of being socially "below" the other person. (This role usually involves: submission, obedience, approval-seeking behavior.)

When I play Role 1 in my interactions with women, I get laid pretty much every time.

When I play Role 2, I rarely get laid.

When I play Role 3, I NEVER get laid.

Defining Alpha and Beta

My personal definition of Alpha Males and Beta Males is simply this:

Alpha males are men who tend to play either Role 1 or Role 2. Alpha males are men who tend to play the role of being equal-status, or higher-status than the person they are interacting with.

Beta males are men who tend to play role 3. Beta males are men who tend to play the role of being lower-status than the person they are interacting with.

My behaviorally-based definitions of Alpha and Beta differ significantly from the definitions of prominent manosphere writers, yet they're the only definitions that ring 100% true with my own experience.

Reaffirming the Importance of the Alpha/Beta Dichotomy

When you understand the A/B dichotomy in behavioral terms, you start to grasp the importance of the dichotomy itself.

Men's libido is context-independent. I do not need to know a single thing about a woman in order to be attracted to her.

But women's libido is ENTIRELY a product of social context. And that's the beauty of the Alpha/Beta dichotomy: it is a way of codifying, and discussing, how social context influences women's mating choices. (And since social context is the ONLY thing influencing their mating choices, context-independent terms like "Alpha" and "Beta" are the ONLY useful terms to use).

Here's my personal belief. Disagree with it all you want:

It doesn't matter if you're ugly or fat or poor or anything else. If a woman believes you are "above" her, then she will want your dick. If a women believes you are "below" her, then she will not.

She thinks you're above her? Then you're getting laid. She think's you're below her? Then you're not.

Above, below. Alpha, Beta.

The reason these words are useful is because they are 100% relative. They are pretty much game-theoretical terms that can apply to any context, and that is precisely their value.

Roosh's Folly

Roosh wants to stop using the Alpha/Beta dichotomy. Yet he has failed to give a single reason why.

The reason is that the Alpha/Beta dichotomy, when understood behaviorally, is such an accurate model of human sexual behavior that it's fucking unreal. Once you understand this dichotomy, everything becomes incredibly clear. You are pretty much unable to continue justifying playing Role 3 to yourself.

Once you understand the Alpha/Beta dichotomy, you tend to subconsciously adopt Role 1 or Role 2 in your interactions with others. Your faggotry ceases and your confidence rises. You become an Alpha.

...and then you realize that giving Roosh money would be playing Role 3. Giving money to a guy to teach you how to get laid NECESSARILY MEANS that you are playing Role 3 – the "Beta" role – if only temporarily. And dudes who truly understand the Alpha/Beta dichotomy are LOATHE to play that role.

Roosh wants men to stop discussing the Alpha/Beta dichotomy because the more men understand that dichotomy, the less they will be willing to give money to Roosh. Dudes who understand the A/B dichotomy are simply not in the habit of playing Role 3.

Conclusion

To me, the Alpha/Beta dichotomy is perhaps the most valuable idea that the manosphere has given me. The fact that Roosh wants to take this idea away is the equivalent of a Nazi Book-Burning... but instead of burning books, we're discarding valuable knowledge.
