I was talking to a lyft driver the other day. Has a masters degree in English Literature. Could hold a pretty good and intelligent conversation. He was an English teacher at an area high school making about $75K/year. Now he drives for lyft, doesn't have to deal with shitty students/kids and makes $130K/year (and a shit load of tax deductions). This woman just has high standards and can't get past the social stigma of an alternative career.

Maybe it's because being "educated" has become such a poor standard for quality that men are sick of the complaints. It is ironically intellectually lazy to gauge intelligence based on whether or not someone has a degree, since it shows they have no idea how to determine someone's intelligence through observation. I can talk with someone and figure out if they are intelligent, but so many women want to just ask about the highest degree a man earned rather than use the tool God gave them to discern a man's intelligence (i.e. their own brain). Maybe it's because I'm in a younger generation, but college degrees don't mean what they used to, considering how many morons I have seen graduate from college. Considering that there are roughly equal numbers of men and women in that age group (women don't start to really outnumber men until later), these women are denigrating 90% of men their age. We've gone from the 80/20 to the 90/10 rule, in a demographic group that should be getting far less picky rather than twice as picky!

I immediately thought of an article I read a while ago and can't find (if anybody has a link, please post it). The gist of the article was that when women complain about bad dating ratios they're making the same mistake the commenter made: comparing the number of highly desirable men to the number of all women. When you start to factor in the things that diminish women's attractiveness as mates, it becomes obvious that there are more than enough suitable men for all the decent women. The commenter, and others like her, simply gives no thought to the vast majority of men. The very idea that it's a problem when they can't find desirable partners never enters their minds.

But if we take the 90/10 ratio she posits, we have to ask "how many of those women are similarly attractive?" I'm guessing if 90% of men don't make the cut, an even greater percentage of women in that age group don't either. So what about the lack of good women overflowing with attractive traits? For some reason we're not even allowed to ask that even though we're also supposed to write off 90% of men without a second glance. Of course the whole situation would clear itself up if people just assortatively mated, but that undermines the female mating strategy based on hypergamy, and we can't have that, can we?
