I have a client that lives in a very liberal wacky small city (Davis) in Northern CA. He told me that in his daughters 3rd grade class there are 4 transgender kids. It’s statistically improbable if not impossible that 4 out of 88 children would be transgender at that age range much less be coming out about it without some crazy interference by adults.

I feel really bad for the kids and what they will endure over the course of their life.

I think there needs to be a balance and I think people on both sides are missing it.

One the one hand we shouldn't be making fun of kids because they want to explore being transgender/homosexual/etc. They should have as much freedom in those areas as heterosexual children have (and I don't suggest that heterosexual children should be allowed to be having sex on the tables at lunch either).

On the other hand, I draw the line at anything that can cause irreversible physical changes, like most surgeries or hormone treatments. If a kid wants to wear non-traditional clothing that is fine. If they want to wear makeup that is fine too. If they want to be called by a different name that is fine. However, I do have a problem with children who have not reached the age of consent electing to have medical treatments that will cause permanent changes that they might later regret in life.

Now, once they're 18 then anything goes and they can do with their own bodies as they wish. Until then they can use those years growing up to contemplate whatever changes they want to make and not just rush into them because they have a crush on somebody, which is the sort of thing kids tend to do.

It really is sad, choices are being made for these kids that they won't even begin to understand until they are older. By then it will be too late.

These parents are doing this for their own selfish reasons, and the kids are probably just trying to keep mom happy. Kids at this age can't even decide what flavor of ice cream to eat, much less understand who they are.

I'll bet the mother wanted to have a daughter but had a boy instead. She thinks she can change the kid into a girl. The really sad part is the kids biology will be screaming "you're a male" but the kid is being raised to be a girl. The result is something very confused and in between, especially if surgery is involved. The kid will never be a "girl" without the reproductive parts and DNA to match, but won't be a guy either if the kid's junk is removed, hormone therapy, etc. Kids can be brutal, do you think girls or boys at school will accept this kid into their group? Maybe in elementary school, but high school will be a shit show. They'll grow up feeling like they don't fit in anywhere. But hey at least mom is happy...
