Wanted some advice from you ladies because you always kill it and I want to make sure my inner voice on this isn't just coming from CPTSD/past relationship trauma.
Currently in a relationship with a man I've been seeing for about 6 months; he's kind, extremely helpful, gives surprise gifts, attentive in bed, funny, paid for all dates until we moved to official bf/gf (and still does treat me out once a week or so), responsible with his family and work life, said ILY first, read the charge on meeting parents/friends/family, always initiates convos etc.
Two things worry me, though:
One: He doesn't like to talk about future plans much (ie, fantasizing about if we ever moved in together etc), though he doesn't do that for anything else but family related things (doesn't talk about work plans in the future, for example, but will talk about wanting to own a lake house with his brother).
Two: He doesn't really give me many compliments or say ILY much- I almost always initiate it.
This sparks a lot of anxiety in me and makes me feel like I'm just a placeholder gf (I am his first ever gf, if that matters). I've dealt with some truly terrible bfs in the past so I'm not sure if this is me projecting fears, or what. I have talked to him about it and he has been a SMIDGE better about saying ILY and giving compliments more, but he seems reluctant to have deep conversations in general. Anything that seems to force him to look inwards and emotionally check in with himself seems to irritate him.
Am I looking for emotional depth and connection in men that just doesn't exist, or is he a LVM because of the lack of emotional intelligence? I feel like if a man is REALLY into you he shouldn't be shy to give compliments/talk about future plans, even if they're just maybes. I don't want to waste my time feeling lonely in a relationship again.
