Here's how I approach it.

Create a moodboard, to really solidify your vision. I actually like to print out images, have actual fabric samples and paint chips. A digital version is fine, if that works for you.
Pick three colours for your home. One neutral (white/grey/cream/ivory/sand, etc.) and two accent colours. In your case, Silver Peony will be your primary neutral, so the majority of the walls in your house will be this colour. Gentle Grape is one of your accent colours, you'll need one more. This article might help you get clarity.

The three colour trick doesn't mean you can't have any other shades in your rooms, it just helps to create a sense of cohesion throughout the home. My home is inspired by an oasis (we live in a desert), so my primary colour is white and my accents are green and beige (sand). Imagine entering my home, seeing the sandy tone on the walls (like creamy beach sand), the white furniture. A plush white sofa in the living room, with a couple of green cushions. Botanical prints adorn the walls. Everything is soothing and lush. As you enter my guest bedroom, what would you expect to see? Red curtains would probably come as a surprise, right? You create expectations through your decor choices, so be consistent throughout, to evoke a specific mood and to provide a sense of comfort.

Take photos of the rooms, preferably empty, and digitally edit them, until you get a furniture layout you're happy with. I just use my phone to draw in a simple version of what I want. Example 1. Example 2. As you can see, you don't have to be an artist, just get an idea of what you want to put in and how to arrange it.

I've definitely had to suppress my urge for drama (a fuchsia accent wall with gold splatter and an inky blue sofa, anyone?) and force myself to choose granny colours (oatmeal, everything is oatmeal!) to evoke the mood I wanted. My biggest tip is to steal ideas from professional designers. Look at home design magazines and look at what they all have in common (limited colour palette, no clutter, layered lighting, odd-numbered arrangements, etc) and use that in your own home.

Have you thought about using something like Havenly? I have not used them, but they’re an online design consultancy who can look at pictures of your space and help you brainstorm ideas.

Just start with picking a general color story. I use an app called pocket palette which lets you make color palettes for various purposes. Boil down some of your favorite colors in your favorite styles and keep note of the colors youre shooting for in your shopping. The paint you already bought might not flow in well , but maybe you could just use grape as an accent color in a decent amount of your rooms ? Either way he doesnt understand the decorating any better than you, but id probably raise my brows at a can of silver and purple paint too

When I think coastal I think of blue and beige but I dont see why you couldnt get away with that very light purple instead of the blue. I dont see too many homes that use purple and when its very light its really beautiful. I say if your husband doesnt care about the purple color choice then go for it. Its a little different but done right it could look amazing.

He seems very interested in how the house looks. Have you asked him what he likes I in terms of style? I know you said French coastal country, but is there a tanglible example he can show you that he loves? From there I’d literally just copy a room and then find things that match. Work smarter not harder, you don’t have to reinvent the wheel, replicate pictures of Pinterest rooms you two love that all fit together.

I love the California desert chic look and am obsessed with cohesion in our home. The biggest thing is painting you house all the same neutral color. It’s an easy basecamp and you can easily add accent walls later. My whole house is BM chantily lace. Every room. Every color in my house is cohesive: white, black, burnt orange, shades of wood and natural colors, plants and natural textures. Basically anything from my living room would match perfectly in my bedroom/office/etc. since it’s all in the same style and color palette. I started on Pinterest knowing that was the style I wanted and made a vision board, at the end I had a ton of room ideas that all looked similar so I could replicate them in my home

Keep pinteresting to nail down the style that works for both of you. Once you've got the OK/hubby is on board with the style you choose, then you can start buying things. Good decorating takes time if you're not skilled at it!

It's great that you already have a theme you know you want to achieve, ultimately. Good job! :) For French Coastal Country, I think: white, pale blue and sand tones. Here's a great Pinterst board with some inspiration

If you have a muted purple, that will work great as a pop of color in this setup, so no stress on that. What color is it, exactly, if I may ask? Any of these might work, but I'm partial to Storybook Charm or maybe even Mouthwatering for layering (2 sets of pillows on the couch, for example, one in SC and one in M).

So from here, you can see that it will be pretty simple to create the cohesion you and your husband are looking for. Focus on all white trim, for color on the walls, a pale blue would work (make sure it's quite pale and washed out or it can get to be a bit much. Color always goes on a lot darker when it's covering more space and you don't want it to be overwhelming). I would click through on some of those inspiration links/images to see what blues are most recommended/used.

Most importantly, what's the lighting situation in your home? Do you get a lot of natural light? I have to say, I'm not sure this will be the best theme if you don't get a ton of natural light already. You can see in the images how every room is incredibly well lit, it's one of the main features the FCC look plays off of.

In terms of decor pieces, this one is easy to DIY. On the pinterest board, you can see one gallery piece that's a collection of frames with like seashells and starfish in it. You can glue actual pieces into a frame for dimension, or find/print prints online and frame those for a more flat take on the motif.

I usually choose my decor first then I choose paint. It’s a lot easier to buy a bunch of cool stuff you like and match a color to it vs. finding furniture to match your paint.

Unless you go with a neutral, like gray. But then you gotta be careful about lighting bc yellow soft white bulbs will make your walls look French gray and bright white bulbs will make them look blue. The amount of sunlight will change the way gray looks as well!

In my opinion, it is not fair for him to give little to no input then criticize your efforts. You both live in the house, so you both need to sit down and brainstorm together what you'd like it to look like, and come up with something you both agree on. Then, you will have a good blueprint to work from.

Also, just because you're a woman doesn't necessarily mean that you have a natural talent for indoor decorating, nor does it mean that you should.

Check out Laurel Bern’s website. She has a blog which has SO many articles about decorating your house cohesively, how to pick paint colors that go together, how to pick rugs that go together, and a lot more. She also has a decorating guide and a paint guide that you can buy online for I think about $50 each. Some of the blog posts may feature houses that are a bit fancier than what you desire, but many of them are traditional/coastal with French and chinoiserie accents.

You said it was your office and craft room. Does that mean you don’t share the space with him? Is it a public facing room I.e. will guests and visitors be there, or is it essentially your personal space for your personal hobbies?

Because I believe that when decorating any home, you get to do at least one thing that may be quirky or not suitably McMansion like but that brings you joy.

I looked up your colours of paint. Those are really pretty. They are actually pretty muted. I’m guessing you chose them because in your own little corner of the home, these will bring you happiness. I’m guessing you swatched em up on an a3 or better yet a2 piece of white card and left them on the walls to see how you felt about them over a few days and in different light conditions.

If this is what you really want, then it’s okay to have a room that makes YOU happy. It’s your home too. You aren’t throwing glitter on the walls and putting in a stripper pole. He gave you this task; it’s actually not fair for him to be micromanaging it without giving you further guidance on what he wants.

The other posters gave helpful advice about using Pinterest etc together to make sure you are on the same page in terms of vibe and feel in the decor. I would ask however why you think French country is the way forward in a modern home in a hot climate. Remember a lot of the tones used in specifically regional stylings are done because of the light levels and temperature of the region. It’s stuff that looks good in that setting. You can’t plonk down a Downton Abbey interior in a glass and concrete box in Arizona without it looking ridiculous. You also don’t want to look like you just picked “McMansion in magnolia” off the first Pinterest you saw and slapped up “boring remodel” all over your home. You have creativity, exercise that along with taste.
