I'm going to teach him, and if I have a daughter, similar things (I don't have children yet) . I will teach my children to be rational, and empathetic individuals. Of course there is a point where 'empathetic' and 'being walked on' occur in romantic relationships, and I will teach the subtley of that. I will teach them that men and women tend to have their differences, and it's good to embrace those differences. But at the end of the day we're all people, and our interests can and do overlap.

The other positive traits will follow if I show them how to be rational and a skeptic in other things. I don't think I need to teach too much specifically in relationships, because I will teach my children to think deeply about things and understand why something is. I will not always give straight answers. It's good for their development for them to be lead to the right answer and not always directly told.

I will also tell them to follow their passions. This doesn't mean you should go in an unrealistic career path (like expecting being an author to be your main source of income), but understanding how you can follow your passions while also remaining realistic.

None. I'm just going to sit with my coffee and smash the "no" button he got me for a mother's day gag gift until the end of time.

Real talk though what advice he gets depends on what is happening, and if he asks me. Right now he's 5, it's about balancing doing what you want and not being a jerk on the playground. And brushing your gd teeth. All small children are self centered and pig-like so rising above that isn't gender specific.

He just said he wishes I had a "yes" button and his dad yelled "SHE DOES BUT IT ONLY COMES IN WIFE MODE SORRY KID" from the other room. I'll leave the obnoxious stuff to him, he's in good hands.

Gonna raise him plant based like myself and make sure he takes in a lot of calcium-rich veggies.

My grandma is 5’3, biological grandpa 5’8 yet my dad is 6 ft. We think it’s because he ate so many veggies growing up

I’d say:

Be like your dad and copy him. Be masculine, be social, work on your (cool) talents, get good at sports. If you want to be treated well by others, bring value and confidence to the table and don’t be afraid to stand up for yourself. Screen time and video games are limited as after-dark activities. I’d tell him his looks matter, being cool matters, being his best self is the goal.

But if he’s gay or trans he can just be himself and I’ll treat him like a daughter :)
