So I’ve had a lot of back and forth on friends about this topic: Should we offer to split out of courtesy?

I wouldn’t take a second date from a guy who took me up on the offer, but I’ve heard a lot of people say they expect the offer even if they are planning to pay because the thought and sentiment is respectful.

I’ve always thought of it like a test, if he turns me down he’s a real one but if not then just assume he’s not interested in me. But now I’m reconsidering offering to split.

Also at what point while dating do we chip in a little bit or take turns on paying? I’ve always seen it as 40% woman pays, 60% man pays, but I’m wondering how do you all see it?

Edit: to clarify I’m not talking about when a man asks me to split, I’m just talking about offering out of social courtesy, should I still do it. A lot of men and women find it a faux pas to not offer.
