What's up with men afraid of cockroaches and bugs?

I don't consider that a red flag as long as it doesn't create behaviour so weird that they can't really go outside normally anymore. Personally I don't understand why so many people are so scared of creepy crawlies, but it seems pretty common. It isn't really something that happens consciously. People are afraid of all kinds of irrational things, would you judge someone for being claustrophobic or being uncomfortable with heights? Also, does it really say so much about anyone's character that they are afraid of such things?

The only reason I would probably not be so interested to date someone like that is because I like to go on long distance hikes and do wild camping and it would probably make for a massively annoying experience to have someone with those phobias with me.

I dunno. I personally wouldn't judge a man for that because I have severe entomophobia and arachnophobia.

Never been with a man afraid of them. But have had plenty who expect me to be afraid of them, and like to play the big strong man. Like crushing a tiny spider is such a heroic feat.

I don't know. My husband's like this but I know for a fact if we were in danger he would protect us even if it meant his life was forfeit. So I'll forgive him the bug thing.

Eh, it wouldn't be a red flag to me. Folks have weird phobias. My boyfriend and I both work with reptiles that could actually do damage daily, but wasps give him the heebie jeebies, and I'm spooked by big birds. People are weird like that.

I once had a guy text that he wouldn't have the courage to squish a spider. Yo. Not hot. My brother, as a child, was so afraid of bees. One time, when we were little, a bee started to chase him. He freaked out and started swatting at it. I, a little girl, was standing nearby. He smacked the bee on my forehead. Ouchie. That hurt.

I don’t think it means anything. I’m fuckin terrified of cockroaches. Having a fear of something doesn’t make them a bad person... if anything, you could argue it’s good that they’re not forcing themselves to meet the macho stereotype

I don't mind if they look nervous, give a scream or keep repeating "ew, ew". What would really disappoint me is if they didn't take care of it in the end, either killing it or trapping it to release it somewhere. I find bugs revolting but I still deal with them on my own, even for other people.

To be honest it makes me lose a bit of respect for them. If they act like that with bugs, I guarantee that they're sensitive about so many other unpleasant things. Unless they have a diagnosed phobia, it makes me wonder if they'd be reliable in emergencies or when I need him. It turns me off and I feel that they'd abandon me if I needed help.

To give an example: A woman on Reddit was mad because she had to bring her bf's son to the hospital herself because the bf was afraid of blood. His own kid was bleeding a lot and had skin hanging but he just went outside and stared at trees, not answering. That would be an immediate dealbreaker for me.
