Also. Try not to get pickpocketed. And souvenirs, don't buy em at the place it's off. They are way overpriced.

And you might know a bit of french. But good luck holding conversation. Since french people talk FAST. In paris tho, most speak english (the french countryside tho... hell nah.)

You could get tinder for the time you're there and say you want someone to "show you around" Typical thing that travelers do.

Just my two cents, tourists in general and Americans in particular are seen as eaaaasssy pickings. And if you’re kinda brown, that’ll throw the people looking to cross a country off their map on the list as well.

The 6th arrondissement is very safe and lively (try la rue de Buci or la rue Princesse for night life). 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th (Le Marais), 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 11th, 14th,15th, 16th, 17th, and some parts of the 18th (Les Abbesses) are safe. Avoid the 19th.

I don't really know what to tell you about french men, I date a lot of foreigners and I haven't noticed that much of a difference between nationality. A great guy is a great guy everywhere, if you know what I mean.

American women have a reputation of being loose so be careful with that. French guys will be quick to seize you up and see if you're one of those. In Paris, we don't smile too much and we put on a mask of contempt and lassitude, we act like we've seen it all. When Americans come to Paris their cheerful attitude constrasts with ours greatly and we sometimes interpret their (sometimes really over the top) happiness as hypocrisy (that's how fucked up we are...). Basically, always ask yourself if you really do mean something before saying it, don't just say it because it's the nice thing to say. In France, if you don't have something nice to say, that's precisely when you're expected to speak. In Paris (and this is a verrrrrry old tradition), we have a tendancy to look down on happy people (again, we're very fucked up). And men will see smiles, and positivity and equate it with being easy.

Let's sum up, in order to fit in and live the parisian life :

- be depressed

- be contemptuous

- never be excited about anything

- forget the word "awesome"

- be moody

- have an opinion about everything, especially the things you know nothing about.

- be melancolic

- everything was better before

- forget about men

That should start you off nicely.

Not French, European or American BUT: stay safe. Share your location with someone at all times.

I think tourists are seen as easy because they're most likely not looking for something long term, and they'll be more relaxed and down to try new things. Time is limited so you have to make the best of it.

You could try downloading tinder and paying for gold, and setting your location to Paris, like 1 month before. This way you can weed out some guys before even being there.

Or you might want to meet someone organically, in which case you have to be prepared to maybe not finding anyone, so don't depend on anyone else to have a good time ;)

French fuckboys are like American fuckboys but more sleazy.

I found that if you give off the smallest hint that you might be into sex, they won’t treat you well, won’t take you out, etc. I’ve also found that they see women who are not French as some golden ticket to sex.

I know that we’ve been conditioned to think that French men are so romantic and that Paris especially is so romantic and I’m here to tell you that that’s the furthest from the truth. Please don’t get your hopes up.

I truly hope that you find a cute fling, but please don’t be desperate. Stay SAFE. Paris is a large city filled with weirdos.

Not French but I had a fling there and they LOVE American girls and I think it’s partially because they see us as “easy” my fling was 5 days and it was fun so I recommend but he tried to make it LTR after..which didn’t work for me and I ended up having to block him but no regrets.
