Women were given greater intuition to compensate for our relative lack of physical strength. It's supposed to give us time to GET AWAY from a predator before the actual attack-- at which point we'll be physically outmatched.
Every woman should read Gavin DeBecker's "The Gift of Fear". It shows you how women's socialization to be polite and compassionate and reluctant to hurt men's feelings suppresses our natural flight instinct, and how to stop that from happening.

Thank you for this book rec, which I'm going to read this month!

the gift of fear is an awesome book and other books include wolf in sheep's clothing, how to spot a dangerous man, and stop caretaking the borderline or narcissist. Even if you don't have one of these individuals in your life it's great for boundaries, and another book called why does he do that? why does he do that is such a great book for understanding why any abusive person ever was the way they were and it unlocked my final stage 2 healing because I always kind of blamed myself or wondered why

Even then intuition is not the end all be all so it’s still important to learn self defence and carry weapons for extra protection 😝

Any good internet resources on self defense? All of the local stuff near me is taught by machismo-looking dudes and I'm not interested. Already have the weapons but I wish I were more prepared.

Yas. Bjj is a great way to defend yourself on the ground. I started taking classes last year and I love it. Great way to stay in shape and you're more confident in meeting men because worse case scenario you can defend yourself when on the ground. Also, I never tell men what martial arts I'm involved in . BJJ and Muay Thai.

I urge EVERYONE to listen to this.
My best friend in high school had a dad that always made me so nervous. Not really for any reason. He never said anything weird but whenever he came around my heart would start pounding and I just wanted to get away.
Anyways, one day my friend was in the shower and he came into her bedroom where I was staying and talked to me about my favorite subjects in school with his dick hanging out of his pants through the zipper, directly in my face. To this day, I believe he would have done more if he didn’t hear her turn the shower off.
Always trust your gut.

This is so true! My gut instinct has never been wrong about people, even when I’ve tried to convince myself otherwise.

So true, as much as i tried to excuse people's behavior (women and men, diff situations of course) i was always right.

This is so true. Anytime I’ve had a bad feeling about a man and ignored it, I’ve regretted it.

I second the book "The Gift of Fear" by Gavin DeBecker.

Whenever I have ignored my gut instinct I have paid for it. I no longer ignore my gut instinct. It is self-preservation.

It's so hard for me to act in accordance with that intuition. My trauma response is "freeze" and I just shut down. Fucking crazy. Men are so scary, and it's taboo to call it out. The world is crazy. Everywhere I look I see bullshit designed to protect men.

God this reminds me of one time this older guy with a job opportunity for me and my friends (acting supposedly... we were young and stupid. Almost definitely a scam, and I felt very hesitant at the time but my friends insisted it was legit) I just had this bad feeling about him. Nearly 20 years older then me and he was all like “you look like you could be a Victoria’s Secret angel” and other comments. My friends said he was a cool guy, and that it was obviously just a complement. So when he asked to meet up ALONE with my I stop responding, and only then did my friends realize his behavior was creepy. I’m not close with those friends anymore, as they seem to have bad judgement. I’d met the guy in person a few times, and had no bad feelings, but over text I just felt gross.
ANY feelings of discomfort should be listened to ladies! Please trust yourself.

Oh gosh, this reminds me of the months I spent in London, renting out a room in a family house. The guy who lived there with his family was so weird. He actually out of the blue invited me to have lunch with him (as a supposedly thank you for something I had done, which I think was just turning off an oven, once, for them, when they were out of the house) and he did so when his family wasn't at home and in a way that immediately sent alarm bells ringing in my head. I felt that if I accepted something real bad would happen to me. Funny thing is the wife was so aloof (and their children, teenagers, just basically ignored everyone else in the house) and they only rented rooms to foreigners trying to make it in London. So suspicious. I feel icky just remembering it.

recommended reading on this subject: blink, the power of thinking without thinking by malcolm gladwell.

I just heard a podcast that highlighted a study suggesting evidence for your brain knowing who you will have long term relationships with (friends or romantic) better than you know. So a person can meet someone and initially not think anything of them, but your brain already knows this person has the potential to be in your life for a long time.

I had the worst most narcissistic sexist boss I worked under for 2 years. I’ll never forget the job interview. The panel interview went great but the 1:1 interview with him was OFF I couldn’t put my finger on it but I went home thinking it was a bad idea to accept the job. Everything about the job seemed great except for him. My work life was hell those two years. Listen to your intuition, ladies!
