I think I’ve been way too “chill” with my bf for way too long and I’m not appreciating how it feels anymore.

We’ve been together for approximately 3 years. When we first started dating, we would talk about a “five year plan” of dating before engagement and I always told him that either way, after 7 I would just break up with him the day after our 7 year anniversary if there wasn’t a ring on my finger.

Maybe it’s unfair, but I was like 22 when we started dating and now I’m 25 and definitely ready for more commitment. We’re currently at the tail end of a deployment (he’s navy and been gone since April), and when he gets back he’ll be stationed elsewhere before we move to Austin in the summer.

We talk about buying a house together in Austin and that kind of thing, but I can’t reasonably give this man all the equity that comes with co-owning a home if he can’t commit.

🤔 I think I’ve got the 6 months of no physical contact on my side, but I don’t want to manipulate him into proposing to me. It just feels like at this point, unless I am extremely forceful about it, he’ll never do it. I love him and I feel like I’m constantly showing him that I’ll care for him - huge care packages and little letters and gifts, taking care of things stateside when he needs them, etc.

Any advice?
