How entitled should you be?

No man likes a woman who is a complete pushover but at the same time no man wants to be with a woman who is too entitled or high maintenance.

Well, men do like women who are malleable. You are talking about the complete opposites of the spectrum, but I would say men would like a pushover far more than a high maintenance woman.

This all obviously depends on how attractive the woman is of course, but if there were two equally physically appealing women with one being a pushover and one being high maintenance, I would say that a vast majority of men would go for the pushover.

We should all have standards and boundaries, but how entitled should we be about what we want?

There is a difference between entitlement and having needs/desires. Entitlement has a very negative connotation to it, while definition wise it might be the same thing, language wise it is not. An entitled woman is the "treat me like a princess, accept all of my flaws and unapologetic bitchiness". A woman with standards is "I don't have sex until commitment is a real possibility. I would eventually like to get married. I need romantic affection relatively often".

Whether you are entitled or whether you have standards are two different questions in my opinion.

I expect what I give. I am in great shape, I want my man to be in at least good shape. I'm punctual, I want my man to be timely; I'm clean and tidy, I expect the same from him. I am courteous to those who serve me (baristas, food servers, etc.) and I certainly expect my man to do the same. I make my own money and am frugal in spending it - I want the same from him. I can't be fat and slothenly and expect Henry Cavill to wait on my beck and call.

Of course, this comes with a caveat. Relationships are give and take and there's no 100% perfect fit. My SO is far from punctual, but he makes up for that in other areas - he's got a bangin' body and is very driven and chivalrous. This also gets applied to me - I'm sure there are compromises he's made on me, but I obviously make up for it in other areas.

To say this simply,

Be a woman that knows her value and therefore “price”

Be a woman than actually deserves to have standards when selling themselves to a potential longterm partner.

In the free market when you OVER-VALUE a good, people don’t buy it, unless of course you are able to deceive the consumer until after they have purchased it.

Such is the same in the dating/marriage market. High quality men are very wise in what they purchase for a “good/service” they will permanently have “until death do you part.” They will test, observe, and make their decision based on consistent character and overall long term “performance” of the commodity in question.

If you are a woman that has shop set up in the market and have the attitude/belief that what you are selling is incredible, (when in reality it is crap, and breaks as soon as you buy it) you should consider becoming a Nun until you have the value to consistently offer the consumer you are wanting to attract.

So how do you know what your “price” is? To make this even more simple. Look up on google a list of all the different kinds of Virtues a human can possess, and then count how many on that list you actually possess as a part of your Consistent Character.

Then rate yourself accordingly. You should then look for men with a likewise ratio of Virtues.

If you are devoid of all virtue, don’t even enter the “marketplace.”

I think there is a baseline of standards (not entitlement, because I think that's a different thing) all women should have, like he doesn't cheat, abuse, steal, he is employed, etc. Beyond that, I think you can create additional standards, but if you date for years and no one meets them, your standards are too high for what you bring to the table. I'm not sure what you mean by "how entitled should we be about what we want?" What do you consider an entitled way of being or acting? I had high standards when dating but never considered myself entitled. If a guy didn't meet my standards I just didn't see him again, I didn't try to force him into being something else. If a guy did meet my standards I didn't have to act high maintenance because he automatically did the things I wanted (pay for dinner, hold doors, handle situations, etc.), so I'm not sure what you're exactly talking about.

You can come from a 'I deserve, I am entitled to' perspective, or you can come from 'I work to earn..' one.

It is fine to take pride in yourself, but entitlement and arrogance will send men running.

Confidence and work ethic rooted in humility is more approachable.

Other than that, the more desirable, beautiful, and polished you are in every area of your life; the more exacting your baseline standards can be.

An accomplished, compassionate, intelligent, feminine woman that has a killer body and a pleasing personality will have all types falling over themselves to get her attention.

Your standards should be high enough that you personally meet them, while not being so exacting that you are setting yourself up for failure.

There's a quote I really like, "a man's reach should exceed his grasp" and it's a very useful concept to keep in mind. What you want should be within your ability to achieve. Ambition tempered with sensibility.

The most important thing is to see yourself clearly, with a detached sense of criticism and appraisal.

Not entitled at all, because it’s highly unattractive.

Being able to effectively communicate your wants and desires, on the other hand, is attractive.

Also, while I agree with WhatIsThisAccountFor, avoid using the word “need” to convey preferences and desires.

You want/desire/love romantic affection, you need oxygen. Semantics maybe, but there’s a big difference to a man.

I'm going to add my two cents and the reason I ask:

I have never had a (major) problem with entitlement, but time and time again I see many women who are nagging and demanding and receive everything they want from their boyfriends/husbands.

Just as an example: I always offer to pay, because I'm aware of the "using the man for his money" issue nowadays. However I PREFER to be treated, but then somehow the man takes advantage and we start splitting more and I don't feel like a special princess anymore because it's nice to feel treated in this day and age and I'm still a woman. Then he stops offering to do nice things for me because I'm a pushover and I'm not demanding about it and "I like him for him not for what he can do for me." So with what I see will my eyes, we SHOULD be entitled to an extent.

Entitlement refers to what you think you are owed or have a right to. However one of the basic tenets that TRP tries to teach is that no one owes you anything. That is the whole basis of self improvement. you do not not have any intrinsic worth and therefore have no right to expect anything from anyone. Your worth comes from constantly improving yourself.

Entitlement is a cancer that seems to plague this current generation of youth... and it seems to affect young women the most.

I think a lot of it is growing up in an era of "you're so special, you can do anything you set your mind to!" propaganda, coupled with the absolutely staggering amount of attention that any remotely attractive young girl will receive on social media... All wrapped up with a "the future is female" feminist bow. And the result is thousands upon thousands of young girls who think they deserve the moon simply for existing.

Just like the bitter, cynical, single mid-30s woman trope who makes awful Facebook posts about "if you can't handle me at my worst, you don't deserve me at my best" and "looking for a REAL MAN, not a boy!", etc... Just like young girls, these women feel that they deserve someone who will overlook all their flaws and love them unconditionally for who they are.

The reality of the situation is that no one deserves anything. You don't deserve to be happy. What you do deserve, is the ability to pursue and create your own happiness. And the subtext there is very important... Happiness is something that you need to create for yourself. You need to put in the work and effort in order to understand your own needs and wants, you need to be able to communicate those needs to your partner, and you need to be willing to sacrifice some of your wants for the greater good of your relationship and so that your partner's needs/wants can be met effectively.

That little rant aside, men absolutely like a pushover... if that pushover is kind hearted and has their needs as her primary goal. A very submissive women who actually derives her pleasure from making sure her man is cared for and catered to is anything but unattractive. That type of subservience may not be every man's fantasy, but it is definitely better than the entitled princess attitude.
