I’m 30 and my wife is 23

I was single when I met her because my ex wife fucked around on me.

Thankfully my ex and I had no kids together , I paid her out of the house and my 401k and moved on.

I now have a wonderful wife and a beautiful 7 month old baby boy.

I agree, women here are looking for something that men their own age often can't provide: financial stability, confidence, leadership qualities.

That doesn't mean you need to date 10+ years older, it means you date potential. Maybe a guy is broke but he's filled with an ambition and energy you respect. Or he's a little shy but your admiration motivates him.

An age gap of 10 or less probably is ideal, nobody wants to be a lonely widow for a long period of time.

Reasons for older men trying to pick up women that are less sleazy:

Getting a late start on life. (Did you have your shit together at 20? I sure as hell didn’t.)
Not finding success or stability until later. (Most doctors I know didn’t get their legs under them until their 30s, men and women alike).
Loss of a long term relationship. (Sometimes stuff doesn’t work out, there are a thousand decent reasons for this)
Looks matter, but so does vitality. Maybe he’s looking younger because the women his age he’s found are less interested in demanding physical pursuits. (I’m fitter at 32 than I was at 20, and I wasn’t a slouch in college, I’m lucky to have an SO who can keep up.)
Small dating pool leads to expanded parameters. Say your life and profession leaves you with acquaintances that are 70% or more male, you’d probably look wider than expected.
Maybe now that he’s got his life in order he wants to start a family. Maybe he’s looking younger because it’s easier to find someone to start fresh with at 25-29 than 35-39.

I try not to judge.

Edit: Also, people at 35+ can be assholes just as well as those under-23. Character and personality are not necessarily age dependent.

Edit 2: OP’s seems to be a very simplistic view of the world. Life, in my limited experience, is much more complex than this post makes it out to be.

Your view of dating realities is very BP warped. You clearly approach it from the women are wonderful, men not so much, perspective.

1)The fact he hasn't settled yet means he's either not looking to settle or a part of his character is stopping him from settling (eg promiscuity, poor communication skills, abusive tendencies etc)

Maybe the issue isn't with him but with the women he's encountering? Maybe he is holding out for someone worth what he brings to the table. It will not serve you well to assume all issues are the fault of the man and that they are his responsibility to fix.

Why do you think a woman must be either young and attractive or older and with a good personality? I would like to hear your explanation as to why it must be one or the other. Could he not be looking for a young, beautiful woman with a fantastic personality and impeccable character? Or does such a woman not exist?

Personally I think that older men could be beneficial based on their assumed progress. The idea is that an older man will have already established himself in his career and his values, and he'll also likely have already been through the promiscuity phase of youth, which means he'll be more likely to seek commitment. On the other hand, there are plenty of older men who may have established themselves in their career but haven't managed to solidify any concrete value system and are still behaving like 18 year old boys in the relationship arena.

Use your sensory acuity to determine what an individual man is seeking. If you have your value system sorted, then you can determine whether or not a man's presentation of himself matches your value system, regardless of age.

Younger people people with bad personality and charcter don't grow into old people with good personality and character, young people with good personality and character do.

Young attractive people are actually capable of having a good personality and character, believe it or not.

A wise man goes to school until 25. Works on his career until 35. He now has the stability and resources to have a home, start a family, and provide for the family. Should he be looking for a 35yr old mate who has failing fertility and higher chance of kids with defects?

They are more sophisticated, better in bed, have more life experiences and relationship experiences. I date someone quite a bit older and he is totally self aware of weaknesses in his personality. Never dated a guy that was THAT self aware. Only con is that they most likely will die a lot sooner than you.
