Sickening playing victim when you're anything but. People who are always looking for hand out, when others actually need and want just a hand up, make it that much harder for those who truly need help and are willing to work for it.

Don't know if I'm wording this the way I want but I think it gets my point across.

Ultimately I hate people like this. Get over yourselves

[–]pmw1981 4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It's no different than some women's leagues wanting the same pay as men...while not bringing in nearly the amount of revenue or fans. There's no wage/pay gap but there's a big fucking empty gap between some peoples' ears when they parrot that inequality horseshit. Not getting paid what you want? Work harder for it because crying ain't gonna do a fucking thing except get you ridiculed & deservedly so.

“Let’s see what the fan has to say about this…”

[–]Gaiinahat 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I'll say it. If you want to live off the welfare system, you should have to work for it.

No work, no check. Get your deadbeat ass out and get a job. And if you're a single mother, you have to have the child's father listed on the case. He has to work for it too. Two parents: no work, no check.

If the father is in jail, he will owe back pay when he gets out. If the father is dead, you have to provide a death certificate. And you still have to work. If you don't know who the father is, tough shit. Test all the potentials and find the father. Until you do, no check. If you're physically disabled, go on disability and only get half a check. If you're disabled mentally, try an insane asylum. You don't get a check. If you're mentally unable to work for it, you're mentally unable to spend it.

Any questions?

[–]stenga3 points 5 years ago* [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

That all sounds pretty expensive to me. Feeding more fuel to already corrupt and bloated industries. Increased demand for paternity tests would affect a bunch of industries. Massive increases in the justice and penal systems to deal with enforcement and non-compliance.

Half-pay for disability is kinda heartless too. Obviously it comes down to the situation. Should giant fat fucks be able to go on disability? Not unless they comply with a weightloss program. Should someone who lost their hands by no fault of their own get half-pay? How does fault factor in? That would be another big increase in insurance and the legal system (fraud would also increase).

How mentally disabled are we talking? How do you intend to staff the huge number of asylums that would be required? You'd also need more police to deal with the large mentally disabled homeless population.

All in all, seems like the implementation might cost more than the savings. I don't claim to have a better solution.

[–]Gaiinahat 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I was just throwing it out there. I do have sympathy for those who really need it. I was one of those that needed it once upon a time. But it was only for a limited once upon a time. Back then, you actually did have to work for it. Things are different now. That being said, I currently work for the welfare office in my state for many years now. From my experience, 90% of the cases that come across my desk are deadbeats and fraudsters.

I honestly think we should end the welfare system. People who need handouts should go to charities who have the resources to vet each and every client. I would rather my tax dollars go to those who would give help to the ones who actually need it. But that's just my opinion.

[–]Blixt99 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That is one harsh unsparing view. There are no exceptions for you in your pure black or white world. No grey areas where there might be any possible reason for compassion based on the circumstances of a particular person's case. Wow.

[–]Gaiinahat 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's what happens when you live off the government. It's a one-size-fits-all cookie-cutter operation. There are no gray areas. I've seen this fraud day in and day out for many years at my job. No, I don't have compassion for people defrauding the government, raking in thousands per month in cash, food stamps, and medical benefits, while I get up and go to work every day, barely scraping by, and pay my taxes for these people to suck the system dry.

No compassion from me. Not one. fucking. bit. Charities are what compassion is for.

The US soccer team showed the most blatant unsportsman conduct I've ever seen.

And of course these idiotic pigs were squealing about money even clutching their trophy for fuck's sake

[–]Miserable-Lemon 6 points7 points8 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The soccer lesbians repeatedly mocked and taunted the other female players, you'd see opposing teams cry on pictures and were screaming about "unequal pay" (meaning the terms they all agreed on but they wanted their signed contract + the court of public opinion). Oh all the while bashing Trump. Because you know, nothing says "international championship" than squealing about money, bashing the pres of your own country and mocking the other players.

As for Serena Williams and her sister, I'll let you google these sentient animals yourself

"Braceras: Rapinoe no victim, her team earned more than men

United States’ Megan Rapinoe celebrates after scoring her side’s second goal during the Women’s World Cup quarterfinal soccer match between France and the United States at the Parc des Princes, in Paris, Friday, June 28, 2019. (AP Photo/Francisco Seco)

By JENNIFER C. BRACERAS |

June 28, 2021 at 5:25 a.m.

Players on the U.S. women’s national soccer team are paid more than their counterparts on the men’s team. But Megan Rapinoe isn’t letting facts stand in the way of her P.R. campaign to pressure the United States Soccer Federation into increasing her salary. In March, the gold medalist and two-time World Cup Champion complained to Congress and to President Biden that she is a victim of pay discrimination. Later this month, she’ll take her case to the court of public opinion in a new documentary, “LFG,” that will begin streaming on HBOMax. Unfortunately for Rapinoe, the only court of law to rule on the matter found her claims wanting.

In 2019, Rapinoe and her teammates sued the USSF in federal court in California, seeking more than $66 million in damages for alleged wage discrimination and discriminatory working conditions. The court found sufficient evidence to allow the players to proceed with their claims of unequal travel and hotel accommodations, medical support, training and other support services. But it dismissed the players’ claims of pay discrimination, finding that the women’s team earned more than the men’s team on both a cumulative and per-game basis.

It turns out, the Women’s National Team earned approximately $24 million overall; the Men’s National Team earned only $18 million. The average take per game was $220,747 for the women’s team, compared to $212,639 for the men’s team. And while the individual female plaintiffs made an average of $11,356 to $17,416 per game, the four highest-paid male players made an average of $10,360 to $13,964 per game. Facts are stubborn things. And so, Rapinoe and her teammates argued that, even though they received more money than their male counterparts, they were, nevertheless, victims of discrimination. Why?  Because they would have earned even more had they been paid under the men’s pay structure, which offers higher bonuses.

The collective bargaining agreement for the men’s team is an incentive-based, pay-to-play contract, under which only players who are selected for training camps or particular competitions have a chance to earn bonuses. The court found that the women’s team, in fact, rejected an offer to be paid under the same structure as the men, opting instead for higher base pay and greater stability in the form of yearly salaries, paid irrespective of training camps attended or games played. Late last year, plaintiffs and the USSF settled the unequal working conditions portion of the case, with the federation agreeing to provide the female players with travel arrangements, hotel accommodations, staffing and venues on par with the male athletes. Good for the women’s team. They deserve it. And that should be the end of the matter. In America today, however, victim status is the coin of the realm. And so Rapinoe and her merry band of warriors fight on, addicted to fame, praised by celebrities such as Jamie Lee Curtis and politicians like Vice President Kamala Harris, and feted by elites in Hollywood and Washington alike.

In April, the players appealed the trial court’s pay discrimination ruling to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit, pressuring the USSF to mediate the baseless claims ahead of the summer Olympics in Japan. And earlier this month, 13 Democratic senators sponsored a bill to withhold federal funds from the 2026 FIFA World Cup unless the USSF increases pay for the women’s team. If enacted, the Give Our Athletes Level Salaries Act would prohibit funding for the USSF, FIFA, and for host cities and state or local organizations assisting with the event, which is set to be hosted jointly by the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. Will the USSF capitulate to Rapinoe’s demands in order to avoid a sideshow in Tokyo next month and to prevent the loss of its World Cup funding? Quite possibly. But don’t let Megan Rapinoe fool you: A victim of sex discrimination, she is not.

Jennifer C. Braceras is director of Independent Women’s Law Center and a former member of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. InsideSources"

Long story short, she wants the best of both the pay package she rejected and the pay package she accepted with none of the drawbacks of either.

Contracts don't work that way.

It would be like rejecting a fixed rate mortgage, waiting out the teaser period of the adjustable you signed and then suing because you want the lower fixed rate now.

Well FIFA's response to any such acts should be a ban on America's teams. It has a long precedent of banning teams due to political meddling in their affairs. If Biden and co decided to legislate the American governing body then that is clear political interference.

[–]cronosphere2 183 points184 points185 points 5 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

Basically,

-Women soccer players negotiated their contracts differently than the men's team

-After winning their cup, they claimed they were being paid less than men

-Cried gender wage gap as reason

-Took the case to court after women's league denied them contract renegotiation

-Investigation into pay and earnings showed the women actually made more money than men

-Case thrown out of court

-Still screaming gender wage gap and claiming they make less

That clear it up?

[–]ConfusedGeenious 33 points34 points35 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You missed the bit at the beginning about them being offered exactly the exact same deal as the men then choosing to renegotiate their contract.

The best part is that they blame specifically the US for this, calling the US sexist, and yet the main reason the US women's team is so good is that the US is one of the only countries in the entire world that not just allows women to play soccer/football and have teams and leagues, but also encourages it, so more women in the US grow up playing, learning, and mastering the sport.

[–]niko_xf 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Most countries have women soccer football, national team and some have leagues too. There is even Champion League for women. It is just that the quality is shit and people don't really care about it.

[–]ZzShy 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Exactly, they don't encourage it like the US does. Lots of countries have a women's team, not many actually actively encourage girls to go into soccer/football. Outside of the US, Canada, and a few European countries, you'd be hard pressed to so much as find a flier in a rec center for a girls league, here in the US you have multiple leagues for all ages of girls plastered all over every rec center, practically every High/Middle School has a women's team, and the majority of colleges have a women's team.

[–]MrHallmark 42 points43 points44 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Have you ever watched women playing soccer? It's awful. The defence is attrocious. Same goes for other sports like basketball, tennis, etc. I am a huge tennis fan and pre covid I went to the US open every year watching usually men's finals but occasionally womans. The amount of money I spend on a ticket to the womans final it's not worth it to watch a game end in 2 sets. At least the men's final usually goes to 4 sets I think the last 3 set men's final was when nadal won it in 2017, he went up against an unseeded player.

[–]Enough-Staff-2976 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I hope men's soccer sue for pay equity.

[–]borderliar -1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

So I recall when exactly this was put to Megan Rapahoi, she said that it was an oversimplification and mischaracterization of the facts. Was there ever any more on the matter?

[–]SandokanNL 26 points27 points28 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

She's denying proven facts. That's all there is to it

[–]borderliar -1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

How about the rest of her teammates? None of them ever leaked anything that got "overlooked" by the news outlets?

[–]SandokanNL 11 points12 points13 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Nothing else but calculating how much they actually earn compared to the men matters, really. She claims they're paid less, while looking at the actual verifiable numbers show the women are paid more.

No. They don’t. They don’t bring in as much revenue as the men’s team. And, they make more then the men anyways. If anything the men should be complaining about equal pay and guaranteed salary, which they don’t get.

[–]Iamlegend_future 5 points6 points7 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That only happened for a very short period and it wasn't much more. Players are paid based on their contract. They're mad because the men's contract, which they rejected, would have paid them more in this specific period. They want to retroactively get the contract they rejected while keeping things like the 100k base pay and child chair that the men don't get. That's not how contracts work.

I upvoted because I feel you, I hate when that happens. Curious though because I didn't see a paywall, apparently the other person who commented didn't either. I'm not sure why or what would cause that.

"Braceras: Rapinoe no victim, her team earned more than men

Weird every time I open it up its free for me, maybe it's a pay wall for only some locations?

There is a glaring omission of a very important fact. The author states that the women’s team was offered the same structure. However, was the rate of pay under that structure the same? If two groups are both offered an hourly rate then they are both offered the same structure. But if the hourly rates differ then there is a valid case of uneven compensation. Wondering why the writer didn’t provide that information.

The rate was even more than that of men. They were offered 13% of the revenue while men get 9% of the revenue. They rejected it for yearly stable income.

9 hours later and still no comeback from that...

But I'll be the devils advocate and say it for them - the women would still be complaining since the men's team revenue (despite not winning much) is significantly higher than theirs so even with the lower percentage they still make more. This is because they put on a product that people want to see on TV and watch in person.

To be clear, this is why the women chose the pay structure they did while putting gender discrimination cards in their back pocket to pull as needed. They know their viewership is low, and they can't sell out a high school field. This was not a mistake, it was gamesmanship and possibly the best play they have ever made.

They need to be focused on getting more butts in seats at their matches and better TV viewership instead of constantly complaining and keeping half their potential audience disinterested.

Huh, that was my curiosity. Must be why the judge threw out their case.

And Grindal, I’ve been to countless MNT and WNT games and your statement that the WNT can’t fill up a high school field is laughable. Like the MNT, they are great athletes.

Certainly not saying the WNT isn't talented, they certainly are!

However, living near Jerry World I have personally seen the difference in the number of attendees to games when you compare the women's to the men's. Even a Mexico vs Iceland match here sold 3x the number of tickets the women's team did when they played here.

This is the problem they need to solve, instead of trying to make political plays and literally pushing people away from them.
