I don't get why women should have more rights than men regarding babies. It's both parents genetic material that conceived it.

It's a weird dynamic. If the dad wants the baby and mom doesn't in most places she can just get an abortion. However if the woman wants it and the man doesn't she can have the child and he is forced to pay child support for 18 years and some places longer.

There's no way we can support autonomy and also think men should be able to compel women to carry their child.

If you're pro-life, that's different, but as long as you find abortion acceptable, it needs to be the woman's choice. It's a fundamental biological inequality that women, not men, carry fetuses to term, and we can't get around that by granting identical rights to men and women.

We definitely need to extend more rights to men regarding "financial abortions" so that every adult can make an informed decision based on the desires of their partner, but that's a far cry from preventing women from seeking their own medical care.

here’s my perspective on it from a female product of a teen pregnancy that led to teen marriage.

no. men are just as guilty as women and it’s both of your faults. my father is $20,000 in debt to child support and my mother raised me herself, had a full time job and put herself through college while raising me. my childhood was shitty and i never got a mother’s love the way other kids did because my mom had to do the job of two parents because my dad felt like he wasn’t responsible for my creation and was too young and immature to be a dad.

i’ll play devils advocate; my mom WAS on birth control when she got pregnant and they were trying to be safe yet an accident happened anyways. the accident is not my moms fault anymore so than it was my dad’s fault, but why should my mom be the one solely responsible for me? why should she have to bear the weight of a decision to get an abortion. i’m very pro choice as it is your body, but that doesn’t mean abortion is any easier for some women. i know that for me getting an abortion would be devastating to my mental health, and i don’t understand why it should be solely my responsibility to pay for a child that only 50% of me helped to create all because i’m the one that’s forced to carry it.

but at the same time if a man doesn’t want me to get an abortion but i want one, it’s MY choice not their’s. i know it’s kinda odd and messed up but this is one of those things where i don’t think there can ever be equality to it because the roles both people play in the situation are simply not equal. we can’t choose what body we’re born into and women have the whole child thing way more unfairly then men have from the get go. i just don’t think it’s any more right or equal to let men off just because they didn’t want the thing they helped make.

that’s my perspective as a woman.

I have to say, the right of abortion is clearly a woman's right. A men has not to decide this (men here). But like you guys said. If she decide to get the baby, she needs to care for it. Her body her choice. My money, my choice. It's that's easy and this is true equality. If a men wants a child so badly, he can adopt for example. Enough children out there, who wish for a better home.

If you listen to feminists, they tend to mention a problem as 'gendered and affects women'. They ignore the men. They use empathy to motivate people to 'help women'. And it works. I think it works because of gynocentrism: men and women are biased in favor of women.

In summary, I think human nature is biased in favor of women and this results in the double standard. Just imagine, if society gave equal consideration and recognition of equal rights, men and women would have the same rights.

Having said that, I think the above aboriton issue is more difficult, because being pregnant always and only directly affects the woman, and will affect the woman and man if the birth occurs. This means that the woman has the power in this situation and legally makes the choice. The man must bear the financial responsibility of the woman to have an abortion (in most countries) while having no choice. If women were held to an equal standard standard and women were required to be equally financially responsible for babies, then babies being born into poverty would go away.

In almost all countries which have birth control and abortion, children being born into poverty is the direct result of single women being able to make a choice while simultaneously not being required to be financially responsible for the choice, but the single biological father is. Before the welfare state, women did not have this financial entitlement.

But obviously, anyone who accepts that and values equality also support the right of the father to rejects all rights and duties towards the child (no need to pay child support, no right to see the child, no say in the childs upbringing).

Currently, feminists (aka female supremacists) have ensured that women can abort and that women can rejects all rights and duties towards their child while making sure that men can do neither of those.

Believe me I'm pro life. I don't see how a father's interest in raising a child suddenly makes a fetus' life worth bringing to term when the mother is not interested. Obviously when the biological father wants to raise a born child and the mother doesn't, then he gets custody. As you can imagine I place a lot of faith in adoption and the system; you can guess the other abortion polemics.

MRA's have a lot of Republican/Traditional-Conservative beliefs projected unto them by people who don't really know what MRA's do and want. This is going to look bad on our part, so US men really need to speak out on the ridiculousness of this bill, especially the stipulation that the father can be non-biological.

I do think women should have some more rights over the child, as she does have to carry it for 9 months. That of course ends after the pregnancy ends. A man should have the right to stop the abortion, but should have to help with the hospital fees. And if women can get out of child support, men should be able to as well.

Well, women do invest more than men in the making of babies. I don't mind the discrepancy of rights, but there is no excuse for the discrepancy of responsibilities.

If she wants the baby and he doesn't, it's her sole decision to keep the baby thus he should have no obligation to pay anything if he relinquishes his parental rights, just like women can do by aborting or abandoning their child.

I believe that if either one of the parents is against abortion the abortion should not take place but the one who is against it gets full custody and the one who was for abortion doesn’t have rights to the child nor has to pay child support and this goes both ways

Let me preface this comment by saying I'm happy about how many comments I've seen on this thread who are supporting a woman's right to choice. I'd also like to state that I am totally for men being allowed to get "financial abortions". It's only fair. However, for the men that think it's fair to prevent a woman from getting an abortion when she wants one, I think a lot of this has to do with many men (and women, even) not understanding how many permanent, negative effects can occur from even normal, healthy pregnancies. It isn't simply carrying a child for 9 months, giving birth, then going happily on your way. Pregnancy is extremely tough on the body, and changes your body forever in many negative ways. Here is a list, ranging from "small stuff" to "life-threatening, debilitating stuff". This list here is why I agree that it is BARBARIC to force a woman to take on these physical changes and risks for a pregnancy which she is forced to undergo against her will:

*Molar and ectopic (nonviable) pregnancies

*Body aches/back pain

*Stretch marks/itchy skin

*Linea Nigra (dark line on abdomen)

I'm pro choice, women should be able to choose whether they want to have the baby. No state or man should be allowed to make a women carry a baby through term. Some women die from birth and get a range of complications.

However I do believe that men should be allowed to sign all parental rights away if he doesn't want the baby.

I remember being branded a misogynist when I asked a simple question. If women can nope out of motherhood regardless of the circumstances. Why can’t men? The logic I was told about was to keep it in the pants if I don’t want to be a dad. Using the same argument against women is hateful however.
