I know this is RPW and not askwomen, but as a guy, I seriously wonder (and I'm not going to post in askwomen because I'll get downvoted to hell). Why do girls hate being called females? Us men have no problem being referred to as males.

It's funny how nearly every /r/feminism thread contains [deleted] comments. I browse /r/feminism a lot. I've made several rational remarks, and all but a few have been hidden. They're by far the most annoying kind of person to have an intellectual discussion with. But then again, I don't try to talk reason into them (my comments are usually just questions) - I observe them.

You know I don't walk around thinking about how to offend, but this PC flaming hoop annoys me. You can't say girls... maybe women? You don't know the age. Especially at a work place like this. I'm sorry but to me some of them would all be kids. Saying male and female is an age neutral way to indicate genders. Not that big a deal.

Hell, you want to get really fun? I can't even be called female. That's right. According to my birth certificate and the wonderful San Bernadino clerks office, I'm a femael! They wanted my mother to pay for the type fix and she didn't bother. Maybe that's why that stuff never bothered me (Hell misgendereding me never does I just like poking hypocrisy with fake madz)

Didn't read through all the posts (don't really care that much), but my understanding is that generally the difference in offensiveness is using "male/female" as a noun vs using it as an adjective.

Acceptable: I did lunch with a male coworker, the female paramedic gave mouth to mouth to my brother, the male stripper got rained on, the new female barista makes shitty coffee.

Unacceptable: Kiss my feet, male. My project partner is the female over there.

To be fair there is a different implication when using male/female as a noun vs an adjective.

"My male coworkers do x y z." (Neutral)

"Some males do x y z." (Clinical)
