I hate how demonized children and motherhood has become. It's to the point that near everyone is convinced you lose your life, kids are awful, you become a zombie, etc when you have kids. It's all complete BS but it's feminism for you. Feminism is all about getting women away from motherhood to "save us" whether they like to admit it or not. This message has really bled over into mainstream society and it shows with how many people have illogical fears of becoming parents.

Kids are great! Are they hard? Of course. Everything worth having takes work.

I can't describe the rewards of being a mother, it's something you have to experience. But I promise you it will come to you. That's what people don't seem to get- that not being a mother and thinking of children and being a mother and thinking of your children is completely different. Worlds apart.

I can honestly say I have never in my life heard a man or woman I know that was afraid to have kids or didn't want any and got a surprise say "My God, this is horrible! I was right all along! Worse thing ever!" Never. Not even once. In fact my friends that have gone through all laugh at their former selves. I have a female friend that waited until her mid 30s to have kids and she hates that she waited so long. So not worth it, she says.

What's so great about kids? I can tell you but you won't believe me until you experience it. Feeling them move for the first time in your belly. "Feeling" their personality as they grow inside of you. That deep connection you have to them. Watching them grow both in and out of your belly and knowing that's all you, all what you have done. Hearing them laugh for the first time and every time after. Their smell! My God, their smell! It's like crack, I'm telling you! The way they look at you. You will never see love and devotion in another human being's eyes like you see in your baby's when they look at you. Watching them grow more and more independent and hear them repeat things you have said to them, stand up for things you have taught them, etc. That right there reminds you you have influenced not only a life but generations. How badly they want to make you proud. How important you are to them.

This probably all sounds selfish and insane but I'm telling you, it is something that has to be experienced. It's a pain at times, it really is, but that pain just melts from your memory when they do something that reminds you of what they are to you and you to them.

Don't be afraid, this is literally what you were born to do.

Can someone help me out with this? I'm not against other women reproducing or making arguments in favor of doing so. But time and again, and this thread included, the language is always to have kids or to have a baby. They're cute. They rely on you. No one ever says they want to have a teenager, or a future adult, but before you know it, that's what they become. The idea of bringing a future adult into the world is far more daunting to me than "having kids".

This seems to be a divided issue in this community. Interesting comments all around. I would be willing to have children if I made more money. It can be done, so I'm working on myself to get to that point first, then we'll see if babies come into the picture.

We as women are born to have children! Of course it is hard, but there is a reason women have been doing it for centuries, its worth it.

Hiya ladies! Babies are awesome. We have kids under 5 and wouldn't change it for the world. There is nothing more rewarding than sitting at the dinner table with your children and husband gathered around sharing a meal and talking about you day.

I started having kids young so that when we are older we can travel etc without worrying about little ones. I know money can be scary but it works itself out. We found Dave Ramsey helped us immensely even though my husband is paid very well.

I work fulltime and it's tough but we make it work. I would love to stay home but it's just not in our cards right now. You will always find a way to make it work. We need more positive and smart people having babies that are loved and raised right in this world.

As I'm reading through some of these comments, it makes me worry less and less about having children if C ever changes his mind about them. On that same note, I also have friends who already have children, and I never see them complain about their little ones, even if they were petrified about having them while they were pregnant. Each of them considers their child/children to be a little bundle of joy, to be cliche.

I've never loved like I love my son, and I don't think I ever will. I've never been more confident in myself as a person and a woman than after delivery. I've never loved my body more either, even though it looked better before pregnancy. Having a baby was the best thing that's ever happened to my husband and I, and I'm so thankful every day that he was on board so early (we got pregnant at 22 on purpose). When I hear someone doesn't want or can't have children I get so devastated for them, I wish everyone could feel what I've felt. Of course I never say anything because I don't want to offend...

I just read the results if a large study/survey the other day and it found that overall, couples who don't have children have happier marriages. That scared me, hah
