Reverse the genders and you’ll agree this was self defense against attempted rape. If a woman locked herself in her boyfriends car and wouldn’t come out because she didn’t want to have sex with him, everyone would see it as self defense.

Same story, roles/names reversed

WARREN, Ohio - Warren police have filed charges against a woman who told police she locked herself in a hot car during Thursday's hot weather to avoid having sex with his boyfriend.

Twenty-four-year-old Christine Collins has been charged with obstructing official business, resisting arrest, trespass, and domestic violence.

According to a police report, a 24-year-old man called officers to her South Feederle Drive home Thursday afternoon because Christine Collins had locked herself inside her Kia Optima and refused to get out of the car.

The first officer to arrive spoke to Christine Collins through a passenger side window that was cracked open a few inches.

The report says Christine Collins told the officer that she locked herself in his boyfriend's car because he always wants to have sex and it was too hot in the apartment.

Police say the boyfriend confirmed Christine Collins' story, saying she ran out of the apartment because she didn't want to have sex with him.

More officers arrived, including a police supervisor who tried to coax Christine Collins out of the car.

The report says Christine Collins rolled up the window as the police supervisor reached inside to unlock the door.

The officer managed to unlock the door, and the police pulled her out of the car after she refused to budge.

Collins, who told police she was injured, was first taken to St. Joseph Hospital for treatment before being booked into jail.

Because the boyfriend told police that Collins threatened to hit him, she was also charged with domestic violence.

Collins pleaded not guilty to the charges during a video arraignment in Warren Municipal Court Friday.

Another court hearing is scheduled for September.

After reading the article it seems more like he was arrested for the extreme lengths he went through to avoid the sex. He stated he was going to stay in the car because if he went inside his girlfriend was going to want to have sex and it was too hot in the apartment. The arrest was because the cops had to be called, they had to force their way into the car and drag him out. If he didnt want to have sex I dont understand why he couldnt just not have sex as it didnt seem from the article that she was attempting to force herself onto him. If she had attempted to force herself I would also be in an uproar (and maybe she has in the past, but at this point there doesnt seem like enough information available to make that call). I'm not saying this whole situation doesnt sound fucked up, but before firing ourselves up too much let's get the full story here.

Simple, The charges on the man would have been ignored. Now, using things like trespassing, and obstruction ect. you know the excuses cops use to "throw the book" at someone. Wouldn't have applied here, even in a full reversal.

I am sure, if it was the other way around he would have still gone to jail, and she would have gotten off free. Even if she had violated the same laws he did. By locking her self in his car.

Now, I noted someone said his reaction warranted the reaction out of the police, I am not going to disagree that the police were "doing their job". They did fallow it to the letter of the law, but ignored the human aspect of protect and serve. Clearly, this man is suffering from an abusive relationship that is a constant in his life. He reacted to the police as his enemy, why? Why did he see the officer trying to free him from the car as an adversary? This is an irrational move on his part. Because he is not thinking rationally. Someone in an abusive relationship , like this, will react like this. Often pushing away or seeing the person who could or is trying to help as an adversary not as a helping person.

The small hints in the story shed light on this being a very real possibility.

And as anyone knows, it is hell to pay if you turn a woman down for sex or any kind of sexual advances from a woman. I really hope someone can get this man a good lawyer as the deck, that was already stacked, is even more against him.
