I should read msm for more balance. I assumed we all figured this whole thing out and pretty much dismissed the idea that Louis C.K. actually harmed any full grown adult women by asking to jerk off in front of them and when they complied, jerked off in front of them. So, the fact that Louie has seemed to not have his life completely ruined actually bothers people?

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Power and control. If they can ruin his career over consentual, if perhaps unpleasant interactions, it validates and justifies that power.

[–]Otter_Actual 47 points48 points49 points 7 years ago (29 children) | Copy Link

what he did was creepy not illegal

[+]Abadoobie1 points 7 years ago [recovered] (17 children) | Copy Link

Illegal has never been a requirmemt for feminist outrage.

[–]antilopes 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago* (16 children) | Copy Link

Illegal has never been a requirement for any kind of outrage.
"It isn't illegal" is the defense of the psychopath.

[–]Evildl17 16 points17 points18 points 7 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

His actions were performed with the belief he had consent. In all likelihood, he suffers from exhibitionism as a paraphilic disorder. It's text book, right down to the way he handled the one recorded rejection. The rejection being key in demonstrating that he really did think he had authentic un-coerced consent.

As creepy as behavior it is, the law exists so we can understand these situations and sort out the ones where there may be two equally legitimate and understandable sides to the story, and I can see the other side of the story where he doesn't feel like consent was coerced because he apologized to the person who turned him down after the first time she said no. Here "it isn't illegal" works because while the behavior is hard to relate to, it is worth examining more without wholesale condemnation.

It's also worth noting that, if Louie CK just has a fetish and was trying to engage in it responsibly, his #metoo accusations are incredibly dangerous. It gives people who gave consent an ability to out peoples kinks and fetishes on the basis that they didn't like it, even more than traditional forms of sex. Compare Louie CK with his literal asking for consent every time being labeled as harmful coercion compared to Asiz Ansari with his coercive tactics. With men statistically more prone to fetishes, and how fetishes can have huge impacts on psychological health, that can have a huge negative impact on men who engage in their kinks in healthy ways.

[–]antilopes -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I don't agree that he handled his kink responsibly, and I don't think it relevant that it is a kink.
Asking someone that he was in the middle of a production with to do something sexual was not responsible. She had to choose between biting her tongue and enduring an uncomfortable environment, then worry about having her career undermined later; or shutting the production down and damaging her career probably seriously. These issues have been well discussed, the kink angle doesn't change anything.

"They didn't like that activity" is not the point. What the five women complained about was not that they did not enjoy that particular activity, it was that he abused their consent somewhat in various ways to impose a sexual activity on them.

Compared to other sexual misbehavior CK isn't a terrible person, and I'm happy for him to come back to work.

[–]Evildl17 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

That's where its fetish as a disorder. He isn't engaging with sex like a normal person. Too many people said yes and normalized potentially dangerous behavior. Clearly it screwed with his understanding of power dynamics and clearly negatively impacted his life. It's not the healthiest behavior.

It's also important to note this is a grade a example of where and how Feminism fails both men and women as an ideology. CK, as both a fetishist and feminist was doing everything in his mind to view these women as peers. He didn't offer them anything, or make any threats. The power dynamic comes into play in the act of consent alone. The women however are trained that in patriarchal society, there is a glass ceilings and men control the keys to the kingdom. They are both made blind to inequality and equality at the same time.

[–]Le_Bard 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

We shouldn't excuse bad behavior by justifying it as a disorder, dude. He could just as easily not realize he abused his position of power

[–]Evildl17 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's what I'm saying (?) I'm not excusing the behavior, I'm explaining why what he said in his apology makes sense and why the rules of consent failed him. His situation was a bad recipe.

[–]Rethgil[S] -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Too many people said yes and normalized potentially dangerous behavior.

You mean lots of women were fine with this. Then a minority later changed their minds, so he's an 'ebil pervert manz'.....

Try again.

[–]Evildl17 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

...Or women who were uncomfortable with it said yes because of how they felt it would impact their careers which he was unable to possibly know because his manager was too busy protecting his client and the fact that those women said yes was linked to the behavior and not to his status. If he was getting proper negative feedback on this all along, the one rejection he got demonstrates behavior that shows he would have abandoned the approach. This is why there are rules of consent. It helps condition out bad behaviors.

This is a nuanced topic. It's not that anyone is really a villian. Fetishes can be healthy and fun as long as they are ethically implemented into ones life, but once rules start getting bent, the risk of harm gets greater and greater.

Let's be the better movement, not be black and white with this and properly examine the complexities. Offer better solutions.

[–]Rethgil[S] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's not that anyone is really a villian

No, there really is-biased mass media reporting of this that has smeared him as a sick twisted evil pervert who may as well have raped them, and feminists who are now outraged and revealing that they think he should never work again.

I agree there are LOADS of other complicated subtleties though, thats very true. Which is why the two groups I mention should be ashamed for demonising and being so extreme.

I'd also propose a further complex aspect-he may, on some level, have wanted to be caught. Either due to getting a kick, or feeling low self esteem-who knows. He (like many comics) has a lot of issues. Im not suggesting how this may have affected things, just mentioning it.

[–]Rethgil[S] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In all likelihood, he suffers from exhibitionism as a paraphilic disorder. It's text book, right down to the way he handled the one recorded rejection

Spot on! Nice one. Further evidence of this is in an interview of a time he nearly got murdered by a female prostitute.

AND especially of one of his first sexual encounters, which had a public angle to it after a girl told him to 'whip it out'.

Nice to see some intelligent theorizing here.

Mob rule is not preferable.

[–]antilopes 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

True, so don't call it mob rule. Call it public opinion and social norms, and recognise it as a crucial part of a functioning society.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Its mob fucking rule. People losing their jobs, committing suicide. There’s justice - which requires a dispassionate examination of the facts and there’s these lynch mobs which demand heads on stakes based solely on gender and skin color. Its disgusting and sadly very predictable. This is the 3rd moral panic I’ve lived through and the setup and course of events is identicle here.

I haven't met enough psychopaths to speak authoritively on them so I'll replace that with "asshole". I know assholes.

It is a fact that 92.7% of outrage is about behavior which is not illegal.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

How is it creepy to ask for consent before partaking in a sexual act?

Or are you just shaming him for his sexual preferences?

[–]karatdem -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

What Harvey Weinstein did was also immoral but (most likely) not illegal.

[–]Otter_Actual 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

No,he sexually assaulted people and used his position of power. Louie actually asked permission and wasn't in a position of power

[–]karatdem 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Not really. It seems all the girls exchanged sex for favours, some of them even did it long term.

[–]andejoh 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That would still be illegal. It's called quid pro quo sexual harassment. I'm good with that. The issue I tend to have is that unless the person harassed was the best fit for the job, they're not the victim. The person who didn't get the job is the actual victim of the quid pro quo sexual harassment.

I don't know if any of the women except for maybe Mira Sorvino was the best candidate for any of the roles he found for them especially Ashley Judd. Wasn't she a singer with no acting cred although she had fame?

[+]RockinRollo1 points 7 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

How is it creepy? It's a fetish - which he received consent to do. Wtf is so creepy about that?

Because he wasnt a female

[–]Rethgil[S] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

But its not 'creepy' for Asia Argento to rape an underage boy who played her SON in a film, where the plot was because of her negligence, he gets RAPED....?

'Ugh, a man has sexual urges, ew, gross.' Lets try to not be twelve years old here shall we?

Everybody concerned in the events with LCK were adults and probably had their own kinks too. Yes, even the WOMEN. Dont crucify a man just because he is male.

[–]Otter_Actual 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Calm down

[–]Rethgil[S] -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I was just making a valid point. It still stands.

[–]Otter_Actual 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What she did was illegal. Louis co was creepy suprising people with his cock, but didn't break any laws. Still funny as hell, still watch him still support him.

[–]StreetThroat 85 points86 points87 points 7 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

Guy asked for consent and got it. What were the girls expecting when hanging out after midnight? Really, were they expecting to play chutes and ladders and then have Louis go, "you know, you're cool, be on my TV show?"

But "power dynamics" mean that, like the second wave feminists said, ALL HETEROSEXUAL SEX IS RAPE. He got consent, but because the women are in the same industry, vaguely, and "respect him," asking for consent is actually assault. So what feminists are really telling us is that we can't take women at their word. So women can't sign contracts, they can't be held legally responsible for behavior. So really, feminists don't believe women are strong at all. Certainly not the first person to notice that trend.

[+]Random_throwaway_0001 points 7 years ago* [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link

Feminists want women to be treated as children (no responsibilities) but with the privileges of an adult (rights).

[–]OnTheSlope 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Feminists view women as objects who can't be responsible for their actions since they don't have agency and need endless privileges because they have no agency to achieve these things on their own.

Why do feminists constantly bark about objectification where there's often no evidence of it? Projection.

[–]Rethgil[S] 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This should be on a t-shirt in the form of a fake dictionary definition

(On the front of the T-shirt) 'A feminist'.

(Then on the back...) 'One who wants to be treated with no responsibilities, but with the privileges of an adult'.

[–]Macismyname 22 points23 points24 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

According to #metoo women aren't allowed to consent. They just can't handle the pressure. Even when they say yes, they might mean 'no' if it's later decided by committee the man used his mind control powers to force the yes.

Obviously the only solution is for women to petition the department of intercourse before coitus.

[–]5th_Law_of_Robotics 9 points10 points11 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah but they couldn't really consent because men and women aren't equal under the Patriarchy.

Which is a new way of saying all sex is rape.

[–]omegaphallic 7 points8 points9 points 7 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Yeah isn't consent unless you don't respect him according to these idiots. He should never have apologized to those fucking morons. It does show you how stunned feminism's understanding of power dynamics really is.

Still that he's coming out of hiding is a sign that this stupid of #Metoo.

[–]Rethgil[S] 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Sadly, he always had a HUGE streak of self loathing which came to the front here. He had every right to stand his ground or argue. But he comes from a really messed up upbringing and broken home, and, especially when he was younger, was always putting himself in danger and blaming himself instead of having self respect.

He nearly got MURDERED by a FEMALE prostitute-but no newspaper or feminist ever mentions that, do they.... (for the record, he has openly stated this verbally in an interview, not as a joke).

[–]omegaphallic 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Wow

[–]Rethgil[S] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, that was my reaction too. Funny thing was I heard that before the recent stuff, so when I did hear about it, it all clicked in my head and made sense -someone with really low self esteem and a sexual complex history that likes risky/self degrading sex. Ironically it also explains his rush to apologize and admit and condemn himself when he could have framed his explantions differently. Dude really does not like himself on a lot of levels (though thats pretty common among comics)

[–]omegaphallic 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

It could just be that he is a natural sexual submissive instead of self hatred, just occurred to me.

[–]Rethgil[S] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Im not saying one has to go hand in hand wirh the other. Im just saying he's talked a lot about tbat kind of thing and shown a lot of self hatred. Though tbh the usual tendency is for a link between the two. Early age shame about self and sexual urges later showing as risky or self degradation in sex.

[–]omegaphallic 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

It might shape things it bit, but I believe and sexual dominance and submission is innate, a sexual preference, but life experience and innate intensity shape the form it takes. So it is like CK was born a submissive, its his nature, but learned self hatred keeps it from being balanced in his life and leaves him open to being abused in none sexual ways.

[–]Rethgil[S] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I disagree myself, as I believe most of these things are environmental and affected early on. Geneticists generally admit they now believe genetics only accounts for about 30 percent of our personalities and differences, backed uo by twin stuides where identical genes are found

[–]omegaphallic 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

30% is still a lot, and we have at least idea of what genes effect sexual doms vs. submissive. I see if I can find the study.

[+]misanthropeoftheday1 points 7 years ago [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link

He did not have consent. That’s a straight up lie.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Are you saying he never asked or that he whipped it out after someone said no?

According to LCK: ““At the time, I said to myself that what I did was okay because I never showed a woman my dick without asking first,” he wrote, claiming he never learned until it was “too late” that power differentials could make those women feel overpowered or coerced.”

According to one of the women who were subjected to his lewd behaviour:

“It was something that I knew was wrong,” said the woman, who described sitting in Louis C.K.’s office while he masturbated in his desk chair during a workday, other colleagues just outside the door. “I think the big piece of why I said yes was because of the culture,” she continued. “He abused his power.”

It’s an abuse of language to say going along with something or saying yes is “not consent”. It friggin is. Thats literally the definition of the word and we are in Orwellian territory if we are going to start redefining words to mean their opposite. Freedom is not slavery.

Nevertheless it’s obvious that he did in fact ‘abuse his power’ and that the man’s behavior was rude, sleazy and very objectionable.

But the hyperbolic language used by article writers magnifies LCK’s sad and disgusting acts to seem like human rights atrocities or major federal crimes which they were not. So it’s hard not to take a lot of this with a major pinch of salt.

[–]Rethgil[S] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–][deleted] 17 points18 points19 points 7 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Last I checked, Louis CK is only guilty of being a dirty man. A very polite one at that asking permission first and having the courtesy to allow these women to leave his apartment.

That's not rape or harassement, however. Him being Metoo'd was one of many kinks in this hashtag's armor.

[–]-manatease 8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

He's only guilty of being a sexual animal like all of us. It was only a short while ago that doggy style was considered a monstrous affront to civilised society (while people secretly loved it behind closed doors).

[–]Rethgil[S] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Dude come on. How the fuck is it 'dirty' to ASK for permission, especially given the allure his celebrity has-he STILL asked permission for something that didnt even involve touching others?!

How many women get kicks from all kinds of 'perversions'??

In our culture we cant even call the most extreme female sexual behaviour 'slutty', because thats 'sexist'-but its fine to call a MAN a 'perv'????!

Check your assumptions if you do this and think you dont have an internal bias against men.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Check your assumptions if you do this and think you dont have an internal bias against men.

Why don't you check YOUR assumptions before going off on a claim that has no evidence whatsoever?

I have no internal bias against men, otherwise I would be condemning Louis CK right from the getgo. I didn't.

And I'm well aware women get the same kicks from those "perversions". You don't need to remind me.

[–]Rethgil[S] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

If youre saying you believe a woman who got turned on from similar public exposure related sexual things is equally a 'perv', such as women who go dogging or are into bukkake with strangers, then I take back what I said.

Its just your post said nothing of women, and there is a lot of 'damning' men about for things that women are into also. But as I said, if you'd say the same thing about a woman into similar or equal things then I take back what I said.

And I repeat: Yes, I say the same thing equally towards women.

Are you happy now? Maybe put your gender politics away for once before you go flying off the handle and turning into a reflection of the whiners you're dead set against.

[–]Rethgil[S] -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Wow. I take back what I said and clearly should have suck to my guns.

Youre clearly an obnoxious little sad loner arent ypu?

I tried being polite and open minded and reasonable. But you trying to smear reasonable points as 'gender politics' is transparant and revealing of ypur intentions.

Your post wasnt clearly written so I queried it. Thats all. Maybe write better next time. Then you wont end up crying like a baby when its called out.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Pardon me sir, but you were the one who cried like a baby because I failed to include women. So if anyone's the immature infant it's you.

Oh dear. Too late to try to appear dignified now after your public rant.

Asia groomed a child for sex and so far hasn't lost anything.

[–]Rethgil[S] 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah like thats comparable. The figurehead of the metoo culture caught being a PEDO and she only loses an unrelated foreign tv show and barely gets mentioned in the news.

Real comparable....

Yeah, Americas media seems to be protecting her

[–]puppehplicity 7 points8 points9 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

What he did was skeevy, and he shouldn't have done it.

I don't think it merited the level of outrage that it got. Trashing his reputation was never going to be a step toward undoing or repairing the alleged damage, it was vengeance plain and simple.

Either way, his creepy actions have no bearing on his comedic talents or his need to make a living somehow. If he chooses to return to standup, so be it. That's his choice. If people choose to be in the audience for his standup, so be it. That's their choice.

We can't just say that everyone who does gross shit is to be permanently exiled and lose all ability to earn a living. That's absolute hyperbole.

[–]Rethgil[S] -3 points-2 points-1 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You describe his actions as disgusting in about three different ways in a short post.

This suggests theres more something wrong with your perceptions of men than anything else.

[–]Proteus_Marius 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The author conflated different types of sexual dysfunction. That's not helpful in the least.

[–]alfredo094 8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (22 children) | Copy Link

Louis CK was wrong. There is no way around that. I wouldn't say that he "assaulted" these women, but he misbehaved and it's good that he apologized about it and was called out.

The backlash has been very overkill though. I really hope he comes back this year.

[–]machingunwhhore 8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (21 children) | Copy Link

I haven't read too much into his story but I know the main points, if he asked for consent to masturbate in front of them and got it, what is the issue?

[–]SadisticSlothe_e 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

Have read just a little, but let's say this guy is the star of the show you're working on and he asks to do dirty things, as any boss-'employee' relation is obviously not equal, you will feel coerced into doing what he says to a certain point, like you might put him in a bad mood etc, thus show will be mediocre and you might be blamed/laid-off for this

But as others said, if a grown up and employed woman can't say yes without it being considered 'assault' anyway, what's the point ? That means women are never able to give consent and should be considered like children ...

Guy is a creep, you could see that from a mile away watching his shows, but what he did was not immoral and the ones who said yes can't put any more blame on him imo

[–]omegaphallic 11 points12 points13 points 7 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Do you realize how many of those women marry their boss? As long as he didn't lash you and punish someone for saying no, which he didn't it neither wrong nor creepy. Let's stop infantilizing women and buying into 1 dimensional feminist ideas of power relationships. Female sex appeal, chivalry, fear of rejection, and countless other elements go into a power relationship. The idea that every relation needs an equal power balance is a fairly tale for children (and by children I mean feminists) because such a relationship has NEVER EXISTED EVER!!!

[–]SadisticSlothe_e 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

As long as he didn't lash you and punish someone for saying no, which he didn't

You can say that retrospectively long after the deed, that doesn't mean those women on the spot could right ? :)

I don't understand your point about 'equal power of balance' and the such, I don't challenge the idea that relationships aren't balanced obviously, I'm just saying that when you sign up for a job you expect to be worked like a donkey for a salary, and only that, not receiving sexual advances on the workplace/on business calls by your boss/someone above you like he allegedly did

[–]omegaphallic 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

He didn't threaten them, there was no reason to believe he'd retaliate for it.

[–]SadisticSlothe_e 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

there was no reason to believe

Yes, there was, because their relation was not that of equals

Group and hierarchy pressure is a real thing man, you don't need to have a gun pointed at you to feel coerced

[–]omegaphallic 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You infantilize people that way, strip them of personal agency and responsibility for making either own choices in their life, sorry but feeling coerced and actually BEING coerced are two very different things.

[–]SadisticSlothe_e 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I see that you chose to ignore half of my original comment and put words in my mouth, good, keep rehearsing the same ideas in your head, you're sure to progress that way

[–]Le_Bard 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Like what has been said, the actual action isn't a big deal so much as the power play involved. Do you really think terry cruise didn't feel the same level of fear as the women that louis ck sexually advanced? These were his coworkers.

If anyone actually read the article he lied about this for ages and only admitted it when it was too much for his social standing not to admit. I still wouldn't have cared but you don't just return amidst controversy of sexual misconduct to a comedy club unnanounced, make a rape joke, and then expect everyone to be happy about you.

I'm not saying it's a "death sentence" but don't act like doing a bad thing shouldn't kill your career if that career is in the world of public perception

[–]omegaphallic 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Terry Cruise of his accusation is true was suddenly grabbed by the clock out of the fucking blue, no request to touch, not contextually reasonable reason to think said touch would be welcome, so it's not comparable at all.

[–]Rethgil[S] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You write as if you believe men dont get unequally punished for these things compared to women.

You write as though you believe women dont get unequally believed and sympathised with for these things compared to men.

So I think I'll ignore your judgement accordingly.

[–]machingunwhhore 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I understand the part about feeling coerced to say yes to your boss but I don't think he is a creep for having sexual desire. Masturbating in front of others just seems to be his way of enjoying himself, no shame there.

[–]Chupadedo 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm not sure he was the boss of the women, more like a co-worker, if I understand correctly.

[–]Rethgil[S] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

asks to do dirty things

He asked permission. He didnt pressure them.

He didnt ask to do something 'dirty'. How is regular or anal or oral sex fine, but this act, with no contact involved, is 'dirty'?

Lets be straight here. If it was a stereotypical young 'hot' man or woman doing it, NOBODY would be calling it 'creepy', 'gross' or anything else.

Probably not even if it was an unattractive middle aged woman.

But it was an unattractive man. A middle aged man.

So the moral police are prosecuting him for it-even the ones excusing him from crimes he didnt commit.

[–]SadisticSlothe_e 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

He asked permission. He didnt pressure them.

That's easy for you to say, I suppose you've never been harassed at work then, good for you :)

How is regular or anal or oral sex fine, but this act, with no contact involved, is 'dirty'?

Any of those acts are fine if it's between consenting adults in a private space, I have no problems with Louis acting on his kinks, but doing it at work (while not being in a public relation with the person) with people hierarchically ranked below him is what is wrong imo, and let's be honest the acts were purely one-sided

If it was a stereotypical young 'hot' man or woman doing it, NOBODY would be calling it 'creepy', 'gross' or anything else.

I sure as hell would, in that case your 'Nobody' is a false statement, but I agree that if Brad Pitt was subject of those claims the backlash would certainly not be the same :/

[–]Rethgil[S] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Actually I've been harrassed by women at work, and when I was at school in my youth too.

No mass media at my disposal though...

[–]antilopes 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago* (5 children) | Copy Link

From a legal point of view it was consent. They said or indicated "yes". But the law was never the problem, except perhaps for one case where it was not at all clear his request was serious and literal.

Louis CK: “what I learned later in life, too late, is that when you have power over another person, asking them to look at your dick isn’t a question. It’s a predicament for them”.

CK's manager is a big wheel in comedy, he also represents Kevin Hart, Aziz Ansari, Ami Poehler and many others. The women who he asked to stop talking about CK have not since applied for projects his manager is involved in.

Consider your own workplace. If you were in a position of power and asked a junior co-worker to watch you masturbate at work, would you be surprised if your management felt your behaviour was unacceptable?

Here is an explanation of the accusations.
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/09/arts/television/louis-ck-sexual-misconduct.html

[–]Rethgil[S] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I dont work in a town where its an option for women to 'power fuck' their way to the top.

I dont work in an industry where drugs, sex, drink and so on are commonplace.

I dont work in a town gripped by insanity over female accusations against men, where accusations against women of pedophilia are commonly ignored.

So I did what you said, I 'considered my own workplace', and I think your analogy is incredibly flawed and reveals a fundamental lack of comprehension of the key issues at hand.

[–]antilopes 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link

I take it you would not feel both safe and not creepy asking junior women at your work to watch you masturbate, if that was your thing. But as you say CK's environment is different.

OK, so imagine you were a huge star and worked in comedy in LA, in CK's exact position. Would you feel safe and not creepy making that enquiry with co-workers, including one you were currently employed on a project with?

[–]Rethgil[S] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

How about you ask how a woman would feel, such as Asia Argento, working in her powerful position, making all kinds of claims against men, then raping an underage male who played your son in a film?

Since we're swapping like for like industries?

[–]antilopes 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You are working hard to avoid the question. I made it a whole lot easier for you and you still can't face answering it.

[–]Rethgil[S] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Seriously? Thats the best you can do? You asked me to compare two completely different scenarios, then ignored my points illustrating this by giving you another messed up female scenario.

I'll make things equal, since thats what you claim to believe in-you address the issue about Asia Argento and her hypocrisy and the double standards of media in reporting THAT, compared to the Louis event, then I'll happily address your highly removed hypothetical.

I'll be waiting eagerly...

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Who raped whom? A statutory rape, perhaps, if it happened in California. If it happened in a place where a 17 year old can consent to sex (as it is in most of the civilized world), legally there was (probably) no rape. Anyways, nothing has been proven in the court of law.

[–]road-less-taken 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Louis CK was always going to make a come back. He has a large, organic following who purchased most of his stand-up specials directly from him. He self-financed and self-produced most of own specials, shorts and movies.

Sure he'll lose the big TV shows but that wasn't his entire business model. Even if he loses a chunk of his audience, which I actually think he won't in the long run, he can still make a sizable amount of money and stay in business.

So let 'em cry and scream about him doing stand-up again. They're gonna be crying alot because he's not stopping. And with the double standards constantly on display in the me too movement, I don't blame him.

[–]little_chopper 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I miss Louie. I know things won't be the same, but Louie and James Gunn don't deserve to have their careers completely destroyed because of the PC police and metoo.

[–]Rethgil[S] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I never quite liked his tv shows though, and felt he'd started to repeat his stand up. Which is weird, cos he used to be known for doing each special from scratch... I guess maybe it was linked to him having personal troubles.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

He didn't break any law, so it's up to the audience to decide whether his supposed transgressions are enough to warrant continued suspension of his career. Judging by those standing ovation the audience has largely spoken.

Anyone who doesn't like that can boycott his content. Beyond that they can deal with it.

There is no leader, it is just in OP's nature to make everything black and white for maximum drama.

Funny these outraged feminists arent objecting to

There is rather a lot of objection in reality.

the LEADER of the MeToo movement

It is not really possible for a hashtag to have a leader but Argento's Cannes speech made her a major figure. I'd pick Rose McGowan or perhaps originator Tarana Bourke as showing more leadership.

having raped a BOY though....

Wait, what about due process and a conviction? This case is pretty murky.

a BOY

Time and Reddit history will show whether OP is consistent in describing the breach of the 18 AoC in CA as morally reprehensible, or if he is actually fine with the 16 or below limit used by most of the world.

'All men always evil, all women always excusable...'

All, Always. These words are great for revealing crazies. They are used in psychological tests for revealing liars and exaggerators.

/#MeToo may be a hashtag but it has to be much greater than that, too. Otherwise, we are consuming the trauma of women who speak out without providing them with justice.

Ironically the most accurate part of the article.

If Harvey stood on a podium I would be there with a bag of fist-sized stones to throw at him, but Louis... he doesn't deserve the scrutiny that MeToo want to paint him with.

[–]Rando9124 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The thing people refuse to acknowledge about Louis CK is the stuff he did, he did years before it came to light. He realized it was wrong, stopped doing it, and went on. Sure he was wrong for doing it, but at the time he didn't really understand why it was wrong... He doesn't deserve to never work again.
