the original reason is mostly due to the damage being done to young boys in education under the name of feminism; i'm all for schools helping girls do well however we have to recognize the damage that is being done to the boys by these changes and work to ensure schools serve the needs of boys as well.

I believe in equal rights for both genders.

How could I truely say that without trying to learn and understand the struggles that both genders endure in certain situations.

not a woman but I imagine a majority of the responses are going to be along the lines of "watching a male loved one get shit on by the courts, an ex, or the medical system for no other reason than being male".

I'm here because I'm a feminist. I subscribe to other boards pertaining to this subject as well, but they do not always do a good job representing the feminist issues that affect men. Hence, the men's rights board.

We had to do a project about gender inequality in my freshman human sexuality class (required for my minor) and I learned some pretty messed up stuff.

I would like to ask a second question that I think would be of interest and relevant. What age were the feminists when they decided to post here? Relevant because I wonder about level of education and world experience. Please either be honest or say nothing. Let's have some honesty here.

In the past the responses have been the same as for men (except if they had a personal issue of discrimination it was an issue that happened to a close male relative).

I'm a woman (guess that's obvious from the username) and a feminist and I subscribe to Mens Rights because I don't believe it's necessarily antagonistic to feminism. (Maybe I should be called an egalitarian?).

A lot of the time, Mens Rights issues are just the flip side of the coin of what we think of as "feminist" issues. I think it's important to bring men into the discussion of gender and how gender shapes our perceptions, lives, and outcomes. I also believe that gender is only one factor in the greater "equality" debate that ties in with other important factors: race, nationality, class, education, disability, etc. To focus solely on gender is to have a myopic view of society.

For example: The gender wage gap. It's not a myth. It exists, but people are having legitimate debates as to "why" it exists. Also the discussion of the gender wage gap often ignores the race wage gap, which to me is indicative of a much bigger problem. You might say that women choose to have lower wages because it offers more flexibility, or because they take time off to be a mom. Fair enough. However, white women, as a group, make more than both black men, as a group, and black women, as a group. Why?

So I also subscribe to reddits on race, wealth, class, etc. even if I might not agree with everything that is posted.

I love to debate and hear the other side and think about tough questions.
