This is an update to this post I made from a few months ago. Basically as the title states she had drugged and sexually abused at least 4 boys in the juvenile detention where she worked, and along with a number of other female staff members colluded to keep the abuse secret, keep watch for each other, etc. She was originally facing life in prison on serious sex abuse charges but the prosecutors offered her a plea deal to drop all sex charges in exchange for pleading guilty to standard assault, which would have probably given a sentence of probation without having to register as a sex offender. Apparently a judge made the right decision and rejected the plea so now she'll have to stand trial on the original charges.

Possibly the most frustrating part of the original plea deal was this quote:

He said the outcome was particularly unfair to the victims of the sexual abuse, none of whom had committed serious crimes before landing in the juvenile lock-up. "They will have spent more time incarcerated for petty crimes than Valerie Lieteau will for sexually abusing teenagers," Skaug said.

other female staff members colluded to keep the abuse secret, keep watch for each other, etc.

Do you know if these other staff members have faced any charges?

It's unbelievable that a prosecutor would have offered such a deal in the first place. That a juvenile detention official can repeatedly sexually abuse several underage inmates, and be offered such a plea deal without anyone even hearing about it is quite upsetting when compared to the outrage around the Stanford swimmer case (not that I approve of that sentence either).

Yeah, I think one of the other female nurses faced similarly serious charges for sex abuse against boys as well. She was sentenced to 20 years in prison but, of course, released after serving less than a year of her sentence because she "responded well to treatment" (source). Funny how no one ever lets male rapists out after serving less than 5% of their sentence for rape if they respond well to treatment.

[–]oshmkufa2010 9 points10 points11 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Duh, because men simply don't respond well. Men are all predatory rapist pigs, raping is encoded in our genes, which is why we need to be taught not to rape. And rape culture further enforces our sick nature. Die cis scum! /s

[–]FeierInMeinHose 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

How is that even legal? I thought the least you had to serve was half of your sentence before you even got a probation hearing. She at least has to register as a sex offender, I guess, so there's a very slight silver lining.

“ We need to be deliberate about understanding the different paths that can land women in prison, be more attentive to women's unique needs while they are incarcerated, and do more to support women and their families once they are released. I will institute gender-responsive policies in the federal prison system and encourage states to do the same ... ” Hillary, April 27, 2016

People will be surprised to know that the sexual abuse committed by female detention officers is larger than that of the catholic church scandal.

[–]bettingdog000 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

not calling you out but a source would be amazing.

[–]kaliwraith 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Wow happy to see the judge has compassion for those incarcerated youths

Send her to a co-ed prison and let her see what abuse is like

We talked about this. Prison rape is not funny.

Justice served, tho. A rapist should not be allowed to live, anyway.

[–]Pariahdog119 12 points13 points14 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

To many people are falsely accused of rape

OK

So let's KILL THEM ALL

Lol no, troll.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I did a very extensive report on wrongful convictions for a law class. Needless to say, I have reversed my opinion on being for the death penalty on crimes.

[–]Mackowatosc -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

And I'd say that wrongfull conviction is not the matter of capital punishment, but a broken legal system. Put in severe personal consequences for wrongfull conviction, perhaps? And enforce them, maybe?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It is broken, well worse prior to DNA exoneration testing. Im just saying if we have a system where we are risking to kill innocents, how can we be providing justice? Until we have a good system, I think death penalties should halt. Do I think we should kill those that are 100% guilty and cannot be rehabilitated to be a positive member in society. Yes, but that doesnt include those mental illnesses who aren't and weren't a threat to others or have harmed others seriously. Granted some crimes deserve it right off the bat, but those are heinous crimes like say genocide or terrorism that involved many casualties. I just think the system needs to be revaluated before we kill someone that isn't plainly obvious.

They keep saying she "had sex with them", but not "rape". She didn't "rape them". WTF?

There's your difference to them right there.

haha yup!

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm guessing it wasn't Brock Turner's prosecutor. Or maybe he only thinks real sentences are for men.

[–]5th_Law_of_Robotics 10 points11 points12 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

There's a huge outcry about the lenient sentence for that college swimmer guy.

I wonder why no one cared about this sentence from months ago?

Or this woman:

Finally! This is always what gets me so frustrated about horrible plea deals by prosecutors that lets off females easily is that the judges can always decide not to accept the plea deal to protect justice for the victims. I think as the MRM continues to grow and awareness of these issues continues to be spread, not only will prosecutors give these bad plea deals less often, but judges will deny them more often when they do crop up.

[–]TheDude41 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Good judge.

Let's hope she gets a very long sentence.

"According to attorney Bruce Skaug, Lieteau on one occasion had sex with a 15-year-old in the nurse's office while another employee acted as a lookout."

Who was that other employee?

I don't understand your point. What are you trying to say in the context of this situation?

[–]enslavedbyvegetables 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

He's trying to say that he wouldn't mind banging the rapey nurse.

[–]Leinadro 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Or that he wouldnt mind being drugged by a rapey nurse.

[–]HoppsB 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

oh...ok.

[–]Flaghammer 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So a father rapes his daughter and the state takes her to foster care, was he abused now by having her "stolen" from him?

[–]Flaghammer 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So maybe we go and find a willing 13 year old girl and start a sexual relationship with her and it wont be rape, right? Or does that logic only apply to boys? Also the necessity for drugs is obvious implication that they weren't willing participants anyway.

There's also another very clear line, called "STATUTORY RAPE" which should be applied to both genders fairly.
