I'm not denying he could have been harmed, and I LOVE this judge for standing up against the double standard that he should get a slap on the back or she should get probation or something. Her quote about what the response would be for a man is spot on too.

That said, there are a number of ways she could have killed this boy and got less time than this. Now you could argue whether, for instance, someone who hits and kills a kid while drunk driving should get more than 15 years in prison too if you want. But I think we can all agree that killing a teenager is more serious an offense than having consensual sex with one, and this sentence doesn't reflect that.

The law says different things in different places but all laws in the western world(To the best of my knowledge) agree that 15 is too young. In the past centuries there was no such thing as adolescence, children worked and labored. Children were married and had children of their own. not all, of course, but many. Adolescene is a modern concept. But I think we can agree that adults should not have sex with less that fully developed human beings. Full physical development can come at different times for everyone but mostly is is 18 or later. at 15, a child is not capable of understanding the consequences of their actions, proven by this kid going for it with no regard for the shit storm that would come about and the 15 years that his lover is spending behind bars. Culture eventually determines such things but there is an underlying reality to this. Teenagers are not capable of adult responsibility. This is proven every day in every way and can be seen by anyone who has ever been a teen or met a teen. It is why we don't allow children to vote or drive cars or drink/smoke pot or do any number of other things that adults can do responsibly. The answer to your question is largely subjective and culturally biased. There is no hard and fast answer to that question but I had assumed that we could all agree that a teacher fucking a teenage student is wrong no matter what the laws or uninvolved people say.

Reproduction was what your body craved. Social constructs have made you translate that primal urge into fucking. It is not that. Anyone can have sex or reproduce at that age, that doesn't mean that they have the mental or emotional capacity for the reality of their circumstances. When you and I were fifteen, we could very easily fuck, though, if you were like me you never got the chance to, but we had no idea what consequences would have come about as a result of an affair with an adult Teacher/authority figure. This kid is now going to have a skewed and twisted understanding of sexual relationships, power centers within relationships, intimacy, how he views and deals with authority, how he see and deals with his own children and other children and adolescents/teenagers in the future. So many abused children and adolescents go on to abuse other children down the track. This is very serious. It deserves a serious sentence. What if this kid does go on to abuse other kids in the future? What should this teacher's sentence be then? She has made this possible with her abuse.

That only refers to minors under the age of consent. Once you reach the age of consent you can have sex with an older person at any age. Here is what the statute of my home state says where the age of consent is 16:

Therefore, for example, it is legal for a 14-year-old male or female to engage in consensual sex with a person up to 18 years of age.
