It's 'something else'. Specifically it's a lie that you're telling in a pathetic attempt to throw dirt on AVfM and the organizers. It doesn't even make sense, as the money AVfM are raising will need to be spent on liability insurance and extra security - and they're going to have to prove that to the hotel and their supporters. Besides which Paul Elam and the AVfM leadership have no history of unethical conduct or misleading their supporters, whereas feminists do little else but tell lies, dox people, make threats etc. etc.

So my guess is that you're one of Emma Howland-Bolton's little band of wannabe-thugs. I see you joined reddit yesterday, and since then you've been busy trolling r/MensRights with a couple of posts 'debunking MRA myths' (except er, not) and generally lurking until you could make this posting.

I've no doubt we'll never hear from you again. So all I would ask you is: why? If you and your cronies are so sure you're right, why do you have to tell lies?

I'm not a spokesperson, but no, AVFM is not lying. This sounds to me like one of two things: Either you, the user without a history, are fabricating a discussion that never happened, or the individual you spoke to is not informed.

Here is a link to a PDF of the letter, printed on the hotel's letterhead, received by AVFM, the same link provided in Jonathan Taylor's public letter to the head of the protest suspected of spawning the death threats.

What evidence can you provide that you actually had the conversation you're recounting here?

I am guessing that the management has not told everyone. No need to raise a big stink and make your employees and customers worry. Now I don’t deny that AVFM might be making it up, but as we have seen with previous events, Warren Ferrel at U of T I think the threats could be legit. I am also certain that AVFM understands the nature of the internet and to lie about something like this will blow up in their face should they be caught.

This doesn't surprise me if the conversation did go down as described.

The bottom line is that the hotel is out to protect its interests. You, the potential guest, has to be reassured everything will be just fine. Sure, they may call in extra security to ensure nothing happens, but from a PR perspective, everything is fine, there's nothing to worry about, here, have an extra cookie for your troubles.

I highly doubt AVfM is lying about this.

But I'm sure the hotel has many managers, and you actually need to talk to someone higher up the ladder to find someone who would know.

Forging a letter by the hotel would be one of the dumbest things AVfM could do if they want to preserve their credibility. Why? It would be found out eventually. If the letter were proved to be a forgery, there would be a lot of AVfM supporters who would be publicly condemning their actions. I don't think they want that.

I just called the number and got the same response that OP is claiming, Now you can check my post history in this sub and of the hundreds of posts I've made over the past 2 years, I think it should be clear that I do in fact care for this community.

And when I called the number, again, the person I talked to said they have no knowledge of any threats against the hotel during that time period. I feel that the hotel would reasonably do this to protect their image, or maybe the person I spoke with was uninformed.

The point is we shouldn't be so quick to throw someone under the bus, especially if their concern was actually genuine.

I feel it's entirely possible that the OP is telling the truth as they see it, and that the hotel told them a lie to protect their PR image.

Our movement has many enemies, but lets make damn sure we know who they are and try not to create new ones out of people who might actually support us.

It's amazing how frightened purveyors of feminist ideology are at any attempts to delineate loci of power that oppress men. When the proponents of any belief system demand that its authority is ubiquitous and unquestioned, the belief system itself is in need of reform. If this fervor insisting on recognition of a temporal and transitory social construct manifested less in bombastic caricatures and more in a detailed approach to the inequalities that each gender faces respectively, the conference would be welcomed as a mapping device assisting all groups to focus on specific issues impacting those for whom they purport to advocate.
