From the time I filed for divorce (April 17, 2026) until it was finalized (July 2, 2026) I never saw or met with my lawyer. Only spoke over the phone. I saw/ met him for the first time on the final day of the hearing. We (my ex) split everything down the middle. 50/50 parenting, I pay child support, no alimony. She kept the house and most everything in it, I got an apartment. I didn't think this was normal, but somehow it all worked out.

I would do as much of the administrative work on your own and let the lawyer handle the stuff that they are good at. For me, anything that requires talking or arguing, I leave it to the lawyers. I would let the therapists or counsellors handle any emotional or psychological tasks.

Yeah, my understanding is that basically none of the facts matter and you'll either fairly negotiate a settlement quickly, or just gradually transfer your family's wealth to the lawyers the longer you take to do that.

He’s not your counselor or best friend. When he talks to you he charges, calls charges, email charges etc. the process is slow. Only talk to him/her if it’s important. If you’re not comfortable with them find someone else

Yes. Good ones are super busy and will be lacking in hand holding. Find someone that you trust and then trust them

You’re lawyer isn’t your therapist. Lawyers are for business: what you want, what you have evidence for, what behavior is legal, what could put you at a disadvantage, what your legal strategy is.

What stage of the divorce are you at? Are you filing? Because between filing, her answer, and whatever your first hearing is there’s nothing to communicate to you really. As anything relevant comes close or something happens you can probably expect to hear a lot more suddenly.
