Married 22 years. The last 8 or so were pretty abusive - emotionally, verbally and there were a couple of instances of physical. Finally started calling out her behaviour for what it was i.e. abusive. I only shared details of our marriage with family last year. I just assumed this was what all marriages were lik, so kept my head down and did my best to keep her happy. She filed 6 months ago. It’s been really hard. Similar to other posters - always did the best I could, with good intentions and was in no way abusive to her. Did anything and everything to ensure she was happy. She was a SAHM with a gig based business. Slowly am feeling better and that it was the right thing to do but the trauma bonding has a nasty way of rearing it’s ugly head. Under temporary orders and advice from my attorney moved out to an apartment. Am paying all household expenses still. Anyway divorce has just passed the discovery phase and my attorney is suggesting mediation. However I am not sure if there is anything to be gained with mediation and if I am better to just go to court due to her high conflict nature. Have not received any sort of settlement demand from her as yet. I’m in TX so mediation is not mandatory but my attorney says it will help him assess what exactly she wants? In her discovery she stated I was the one who was physically/emotionally and financially abusive towards her. This is false. Since filing she has also accused me of stalking which again is not true. I can’t believe after 22 years she would say these things about me.

I have submitted evidence of abuse to my attorney, I have texts, photos and recordings of her openly saying it was within her rights to hit me etc …

We don’t have much to split, home equity, 401k, no savings, and only other issue is spousal support. Kids are adults. My question is whether I should attempt mediation or skip it? Is it just a way for the attorneys to make more money? I just want this to be over and start rebuilding my life so looking for the quickest resolution.

Any advice would be appreciated.
