I know what worst case scenario is in TX , 20% for 7 years . We’ve been married 25 years. I am trying to understand the likelihood of worst case since she will leave the marriage with > $1m in assets

TX often does not award spousal support. But 50% of all communal assets and debts will be split 50/50. Talk to a local attorney to learn how things work in your state and county. Many law firms have online faqs that help and will give you a free 30-60min consult.

If you do the consult research as much as you can first, and make a list of questions to ask. They don't need to know or care about your relationship. They just need the facts of your case.

Get a lawyer. The term to use is “more than fair.” Come up with a number that is 5% more than fair, add a few bucks to that, make it unreasonable for her to continue arguing for anything so her lawyer can’t rack up billable hours and she has to agree to your terms. Get it written in stone. When it’s done the deal is done, there will be no concessions. Move on with life and write it off as a loss.

Don’t fight over nickels and dimes, just give her a dollar and be done. Or the lawyers will nickel and dime you to death.

Yes, she is getting alimony unless you can convince her otherwise and resolve it without lawyers. Once she gets a lawyer, however, you'll be paying her attorney fees too. Expect any lawyer she gets to sniff out the fact that you have a lot of resources, which in turn will cause that lawyer to play on your wife's negative emotions so that the lawyer can litigate everything to the max, and be contentious as hell with no compromising. It's a huge windfall for a lawyer to get a client like your wife because he'll look at it as you writing a blank check for his services. This is not hyperbole.

Most don’t in Texas unless there are special circumstances. This is generally the case in marriages under 10 years and even more where she is capable of working.

Marriage is so awesome for women. They can spend their 20s screwing around and being irresponsible then just get married pop out some kids (for your husband or your lover), stop working and then divorce when you're ready to get back on the market.
