How can someone you spent 20 years with be that callous and reckless?

Because she checked out a long time ago. Cheating tends to happen as an expression of built up resentment as they look for ways to escape that resentment.

how do you treat someone you're supposed to have loved for two decades so cruelly?

She hasn't loved you for two decades. She probably started detaching several years ago (tends to happen around first child's age of 3-5 years old - casual observation of my DV divorce group and reading here/main divorce sub) but she didn't build up the resolve to go through with it out of the following:

fear (how it would affect your son at that super early age and her second chances)
obligation (feelings of attachment to the life you two built)
hope (hope that you would be able to understand her resentments without her communicating them which is a failure on both parts but more so on her unless trust issues ran deep in the relationship)

All I can say is be the better human for your child. Give them a healthy role model to see how to live a fulling life. Sleeping around etc is fun but it tends to prevent true long term healing that can only be actualized through self reflection. She will learn this too late in your childs life is she doing stuff like this while still in cohabitation with you. Be the better human...

Accidentally on purpose. She might just have done it to torture you. Or she's in a different head space and it shouldn't affect your journey.

Is it just me? Or do women in general seem like they’re so much more capable of “in your face” acts of sexual disrespect than men? I read lots of posts here, and in the woman’s counterpart. I see women tell their story of how their “husband left with an 18YO” or “husband had a baby with his whore 2 months after divorce was final” and so on. I just don’t see as much blatant and disrespectful behavior from men. It’s wrong no matter who’s doing it, but man it seems like women have mastered that evil art! Even if you’re already divorced, it is so disrespectful of you and your relationship. I cannot imagine doing that to my ex- even though she does.....

Mine miraculously met someone before we’ve started paperwork and the guy has a toothbrush at her place and has met our kids several times. I’m trying to maintain a decent holiday for the kids but I will have my lawyer tighten the screws and make sure the judge knows all of this reckless behavior when I file early next year.
