I’m single, never been married with no kids and dated a man who was separated and going through a divorce.

I highly don’t recommend it.

He was so caught up in the divorce process and with fighting over custody that every single conversation was about his ex wife. I’ve never met the woman but it was like having a third person in the relationship. He was probably a great guy but it was just difficult because his ex wife called the shots and knew which buttons to push so it affected our opportunity to get to know each other.

In addition, it was like he was in the process of finding himself all over again and I felt like I was more of his therapist-slash-mother most of the time. It came to a point where being with him was exhausting.

I think it's better to wait. Separated is married, so not in line with my personal code, but to each his own. I am "separated" right now miyself although still living together. The sexless marriage thing makes me want to get out there, although I am not one to jump into bed with any woman willing. I am hoping I will be able to wait until it's someone I really care about and have potential for a LTR with.

Jeeze... dating while separated is like quitting heroin and picking up cocaine. I may feel differently in time but good God, I can't imagine running back into a prison right after I'm paroled from another.

Do it. Fucked a few women in my marital bed and house during the separation and it felt great. It will do wonders for your mental health.
