Insane that equal parenting is still not standard everywhere in the US.

AZ is a 50/50 custody state. Has been since 2012. But the courts still sway to the mother.

My exwife had a recent conviction for "DUI with kids in the car" when I divorced her.

My lawyer said, "This DUI conviction of hers clinches the fact that you'll get 50/50 custody no matter what she says. But you can spend $20,000 in legal fees to try to get more custody, and you'll only end up with 50/50."

On the flip side. If I was the one to get a conviction for "DUI with kids in the car", do you think I'd get 50/50 custody? Hell no! I'd get supervises visitation only.

Who pushes for these laws? Men's groups. Who opposes them? Lawyers and women. That should tell you everything you need to know when some dolt starts claiming the Family Courts are gender-neutral and lopsided custody orders are a myth.

I'm in Ohio and have been on the wrong end of how our state handles custody issues. This is encouraging.

This sounds good, but it can backfire. Here in Arizona we have a similar policy.

My current girlfriend’s ex husband spent 10 years in prison for vehicular homicide following a OWI accident. Upon release he was granted 50% custody with $70 a month in child support. The judge did not even take into consideration that we knew zero about his record while in prison, the fact he was living with relatives and had no job nor the fact that he didn’t and still doesn’t have a driver’s license. He was picking the kids up with no license and the judge had to default to shared custody because of the law.

ICYW my girlfriend friend did not have a lawyer because my lawyer, a personal friend, said it would just be a waste of money without proof of abuse or addiction or what have you there wasn’t much he could do.
