Small rant, but have you all noticed that in divorce law? Basically assets are 50/50, monthly finances are equitable. And this just happens to line up with the higher earner(on average the man) is always paying more.

Split on marital residence? 50/50, doesn't matter if the husband brought in more income to contribute to the mortgage and down-payment. If you paid 70% of the mortgage and bills, you lose 20% of your contribution. For instance if the house has 100k equity, even if you contributed 70k of that, you both walk away with 50k

Split on retirement? 50/50, doesn't matter if the husband contributed more because he had higher income. Doesn't matter if you contributed 70% to the retirement. You lose 20%

Split on bank accounts? 50/50. Doesn't matter if you contributed 70%. You lose 20%

Alimony? Oh well now it does matter who the higher earner is. You making more is suddenly relevant! You lose 20%

Child support? Again, the husband had a higher income so he's on the hook for more. You lose 20%. Honestly in my state, it would end up being more than 20% in this scenario but that's an entirely different story.

Maybe one of the reasons women file for divorce more often is because they are financially incentivized to do so at every turn including a double standard for when income matters and when it doesn't.
