I wrote her parents a nice note, she completely ignored my entire family. I feel good about what I did I mean after all we were family for 20 years. I don't know how she can do what she did, but she's giving me no closure too so I'm pretty sure she's just garbage person at this point.

Anyway, I would suggest you do what feels right. I will always be proud of how I treated her parents and someday I would expect she'll feel pretty sorry about how she treated mine. But that's on her and not me

Like everybody else I agree with not having contact with the family after the divorce is fine. Presumably everybody was informed before you. So they all know how „shitty“ you are from her perspective. Many times the divorce starts just after the parents are informed. If the mother in law knows it than you will know too.

I also totally agree that you do have a bond with your family in law. After 25 years I knew her conservative family would never speak to me again so I wrote them a thank you letter.

But my thought is: how do you ever trust your new family „in law“ how will you treat the next people who come with your girlfriend? You will lose them any way when she is gone..

Blood is thicker than water. In my case, her side knows that her story doesn't pass the sniff test.. but snap next day - it's like I never existed. And we were great friends, too.

Why do you care if her family speaks to you? Why are you trying to communicate with her family at all? You divorce her, you divorce her family as well.

One strong possibility is that they are ticked off at you... because they know she will soon be their problem.

Yeah my ex carried on a 6 month affair so I divorced her. Early days I must’ve been painted as a monster or something. In the long run they figured it out. Best to just keep them out of your mind and make new social connections that enrich your new life. Found all the support and friendship I could ever need in the local golf men’s club.
