Im planning a long bike ride for that first weekend where I don’t have the kids. Follow that with a massage and barbecuing on the grill.

My exwife and I had to go to trial. She wanted every last dime - past, present and future. Because she heavily played the "too sick to work" card. She also wanted full custody to maximize CS $'s, loads of alimony, half of the equity in my separate and sole property house. Half of my 401k. Half of the equity in my car, but the loan to buy the car was "All on Jim" because she didn't sign the loan paperwork. She wanted me to pay for her to have a commercial health insurance plan to continue doctor shopping. And to top it all off? She put down her $7500 in DUI fines as a marital debt because she argued that she got the DUI while we were married, so it's a marital debt.

We went to trial and it went heavily in my favor. I got 50/50 custody and she got $0 alimony and was told it was time to get a job. Only money she got was half of my 401k because it was a marital asset.

I got the decree at my lawyer's office and I texted all of my friends the great news. I went over to see my kids. No vacation. No big celebration. Just a big weight off of my chest.

The next day she got the news. All day long, all she would do is text me "fuck you!" I heard from the kids that she screamed for 2 days.

I wrote in my journal a lot and tried to keep busy.

I mostly stuck to my usual routine -- I didn't want to accidentally form some mental association between the divorce and some thing or activity. It was not a momentous occasion that I wanted to celebrate or mark.

I didn't do anything when the divorce was final, neither I plan to do anything when I move out.

For me personally, there isn't much to celebrate. It's a failure and it's a "cut your losses" type of event.

I felt relieved. I went for a loooooong walk to decompress and to try to let it out all my frustrations and to contemplate my new life. Made me smile a lot
